Never seen that one.
Aero adds a bit to CPU overhead, but not so likely a problem with most modern CPUs of 2Ghz or more and enough RAM. I run Deskscapes (Animated backgrounds) on my laptop, along with Aero and it has no problems. Deskcapes uses a fair bit of power, more than Aero. (Pentium T4400 at 2.2Ghz with 4GB RAM and W7 64 on the laptop.) With Deskscapes on my my tower PC, I disable Deskscapes once in a while if it slows down, but never Aero. With H.264 encodes at 100% on all cores, maybe not surprising.

I can play games and encode H.264 and never get that message, only when quitting a game or app and my system never runs poorly,i think its an ms bug.

Yeah i have never seen that either.
And from your specs there sure is not a problem with your video performance either.
When i first read it i thought the same thing also, a M$ bug or some other bug ?
Have you done any M$ updates or anything else at the time it started to happen ?
I see you said it happens "once in awhile" so i'm just wondering if this is a new issue.
Does it only happen on just specific games or apps ?
I pretty much play the latest most resource and power sucking games when they come out and i've never had an issue with areo.
I don't know how much of a difference there is but i also use W7 Ultimate 64bit but i am sure you are on 64bit with 8gb's of ram. -
It wouldn't surprise me if MS was somewhere in the equation.
I play a lot of graphics games that temporarily change my screen resolution, but it returns to normal afterwards. I could see how that would mess with MS or the graphics driver if the game was not configured properly.

It's been happening since win7 came out regardless of updates and don't matter what game or app and i've upgraded my system twice, could be that my logitech devices(mouse, keyboard and gamepad) which i kept over the upgrades could be causing it.

I would not think that would cause it.....
I have the same USB RAZER mouse I bought way back when Vista was new and i was still on XP pro.
And my Keyboard, Oy Vey
It has to be at least 10+ years old!!!
LOL!!!
It has something like a PS2 connector on it, but it's about as big around as a nickel and i have a special adapter that converts it to USB.
If anything would mess up windows & modern hardware it would be this prehistoric keyboard!!!
LOL!!!
The only reason i still have it (actually 2) is because it is big with big keys and split in the middle, like an ergo, and has arrow keys on the left hand side, makes it much easier and faster for playing FPS games, and i have never been able to find any with the same layout.
And setting up other people's PC's i use a variety of old @$$ keyboards, PS2 & USB, that are way old!! -
Its not the hardware of the logitech thats at fault,i meant the software that's needed to customize the keys, might be doing something with windows aero that confuses it.

I believe Aero is temporarily disabled for some programs, games in particular. My guess is it's not resetting correctly after the game, though I don't know why it would throw up that error. You might try turning Aero off and running one of those applications. Problem is, then there wouldn't likely be an error, so maybe not much help.

I get the same message every once in a while, seemingly at random intervals. It's been happening for nearly a year. I usually just ignore it , close it out and go on with my business. I figured that it was a Microsoft screwup. I'm up to date on all of the updates and rarely play games on this machine.
It probably is not the Logitech devices. I get the message and don't have any of their products. -
I have only seen that message once that I can remember, but it wasn't recent and I can't recall which program may have been involved, although I think it was an old one with some comptibility issues.
This could be an instance of poor error handling within Windows 7. On the other hand, maybe the program did not shut down properly causing a genuine error, or perhaps there was a bug in the video card drivers. -
Java used to cause this problem, along with a few other programs I've used.

Just an update,i replaced my o/s hdd last month and haven't received anymore disable aero messages since.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
Anyone have an explanation for why that should be so? I'm puzzled.
Anyway, yeah, I've seen that message a few times, but in Vista, not W7. Got it for some old games, also in TME, playing BD images. A month or so ago, I took both operating systems for a test drive, so to speak, and decided on Win7. Same hardware.
I've turned off desktop compositing for a couple old programs and games as a precaution, but again, never saw that message in Win7.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
Could be my older wd 750gb was slower to respond,my seagate feels a lot faster in everyday tasks.
