Need some help, I have been converting, ripping and burning for a little while now, but have been stumped by this problem.
I'm trying to get the Main Menu from a dvd converted into a usable format (AVI. MP4 MKV) so I can extract the audio from it. I have ripped the entire dvd and can even play the .IFO in VLCPLAYER. So i've identified the correct file, but can't seem to get any programs to accept it for conversion.
As a second note when playing this file it initially plays for 1:00 minute then repeats only playing 30 seconds of the initial 1:00 minute. furthmore, the 30 seconds that repeats is the section that i am trying to get.
Please tell me what you need to help me try to figure this out. in summation i am trying to convert a .ifo file to .avi
if it would help i could attach the file.
thanks

An IFO file isn't video so you won't be doing any converting of it. If you want the menu audio, open the menu VOB in DGIndex and File->Save Project. You'll get the audio by default. If it's more than you want (you said something about it repeating), go back and use the [ and ] buttons to isolate exactly what you want. Or cut it after you get it.

Sure, attach anything you like. However, this site has a 30MB upload size. And surely you don't mean to upload the IFO file? If you need more than 30MB for the Menu VOB, use a place like MediaFire or Sendspace.

YOU ARE THE BEST MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I kept looking through all the other .vob files and found one that had the same "main menu" audio that I was looking for then I used DGIndex just like you said and it worked beautifully. now i'm going to use audacity to manipulate it into a track. your awesome and thanks for the help and being patient with me.
I wish I could understand the structure of a ripped DVD, got any advice. I wouldn't even know where to go and read about these files systems .vob and .ifo
Anyway thanks again, and I get to add another tool to the system. -

Massive thread bump, but: I'm trying to achieve the same thing as OP, but the solution provided doesn't work as none of the VOB files contain the menu audio as far as I can tell, it's only present in one of the IFOs.

And yet, as per the spec, Audio & Video assets are only situated in the VOB files - usually VIDEO_TS.VOB for main menu, and VTS_##_0.VOBs for sub-menus (chapter, language, etc). IFO is, as the name would suggest, only information about the assets, about the navigation, etc.
Look at "What is DVD" above, it explains this breakdown of the structure.
My guess is your app is switching automatically to another file (a VOB) without you realizing it. Try using a different app to analyze the files, or just do a complete deconstruction (extracting all assets) with something like. DVDDecrypter.

I've opened every single VOB file on the disc. None of them contains the menu.
