AVI Motion JPEG to x264 in Matroska MKV container

    Hello everyone,

I'll explain my situation. I captured a HD video (720p) with my BlackMagic Intensity Pro. The file is compressed by Motion JPEG, but it is still very big (around 10 GB for 25min). Because I can't store much files of this size, I want to convert it to x264, allowing lower bitrates. First I want to skip the commercials! I read a lot on the internet, about MeGUI. How should I first cut the video (commercials) and convert it to x264?

    Thanks!

Try Avidemux, open avi, set start and stop, delete. Save as a new avi. Or compress directly to a mkv h264 with avidemux, under video choose mpeg4 avc and configure compression options, save as a mkv.

I'll try it. Can I skip frames in the middle of the movie ? Because you tell me "start and stop" but the commercials are in the middle of the movie. Thanks for your answer!

EDIT : I figured it out. Seems to be a nice prog! Thanks!
