  1. i have 2 different rips of the same movie. both are .vob files.
one plays perfectly, nice and crisp like it is suppose too.
the other, and more common, plays all blotchy and just looks horrible.

im no video tech expert, but im guessing its one of 2 possible problems.
    1. both movies are using a different video codec and whatever proggie using the not-so-good playback needs better configuration?

both playback details from properties: MPEG2 video 25.00fps, VLC media file [.vob]
only difference i can see between the 2 is the bad one is 9800kbps and the good one is 8552kbps?

The DVD specification says 'Up to 9.8 Mbps* (9800 kbps*) MPEG2 video', but I've seen higher bitrates play back with no problems. I suspect you have something else wrong with the problem file.

When you say, "both movies are using a different video codec', that confuses me as you say they are both MPEG-2 in the next line.

Try dropping each one into MediaInfo and see what it says about them. MS 'Properties' doesn't give much information.

    And welcome to our forums.

  3. sorry bout that. yeh, it appears they are both MPEG2?
and thank you for the welcoming : ) i got a bunch of family out your way in Havasu.

anyways, i installed the MediaInfo thing. is there a particular View i want to use?

i was looking in the TREE view and i noticed one is Interlaced and one is Progressive. could that be it?
i also made a screen shot of the bad playback trying to catch what im talkin bout, it looks all blocky.
now lets see if i can figure out how to attach the pic : P
