  1. That is the windows vista recording menu not my usb one, my usb doesnt have that sort of option, and I have tried using them all to default and still nothing. My usb thingy only records when i have my guitar or microphone inserted into it, other than then, its merely to go to my beautiful celestions.

The capture card is the only one that is active for recording

No. The capture card is only handling the video. You already saw that audio is 'pass-through'. That means that the audio card is handling the recording of the audio.

Windows should report under the settings, as I described, that it has two audio devices. If it does not then I can not see how it is possible to record anything from the PC socket as the USB device has taken over the function of the sound card.

Now you say you can plug in your guitar or microphone in to the thingy so there are input sockets. Microphone is usually just Mic but what of the other ? It is well worth plugging the audio cable that you put in the PC in to the socket your guitar usually goes.

  3. Its just a mic input, i rig a mic upto the guitar amp and its an slr socket so wont be able to connect via the pc. and have also tried recording my camcorder stuff without the usb device plugged in

Have you also looked at the Windows properties to see if you indeed have two audio recording devices ? But even saying that if you unlug the USB thingy then Windows will then just see the one. But again, I must come back to the notion that it can only record from one device and that device should be set as the default in the recording properties.

Other than this I really do not know where to go except........

If indeed it worked and then it did not and then you installed it again but changed nothing there can only be one conclusion....

The video device, or atleast the audio element is faulty but before that I can make one more suggestion which may give you a little more flexiblity. Try to locate the full version (without the SE bit) of the Ulead(Corel) software. Do not go below version 11 though. IIRC the earlier versions do not work with Vista. There is a trial version of the latest version on the Corel site so that may also be worth trying.

If X4 works like V10 or even MediaStudio V7 (which I usually use) or MediaStudio V8 - All Ulead - during capture only some frames are displayed for Mpeg2 hence the 'jumpy'

Glad to hear that it now works although it does not exactly explain why V11 did not unless, and I would not be surprised, it was just a Vista thing

I think I did mention that earlier Ulead products could not capture using Vista. Just one of many reasons I never upgraded from XP. I do not remember the exact version that this was fixed.

  10. No worries, least i have one working version now. I havent gone through all the settings yet of X4 but is there a way to make it auto stop capturing once the camcorder tape has finished, so that i dont have to keep an eye on it?

    I have no idea.

But what I would suggest is that you ask that sort of question at the dedicated Corel forum for VideoStudio. You will find some quite knowledgeable people there specially about Ulead/Corel products who are more likely to read there than here.

  12. using the dc 10 capture device.
    ulead se 10 software
    use the dc10+ drivers (sk110)
load the drivers BEFORE the se software

    start se in capture
    select Options
    select Video and Audio Capture
    Source
    Audio Device
    Digital Audio Interface (USB
    Input Source
    Master Volume
    Tick the box
    Preview audio with USB device.
you should now be hearing sound.
