    Folks...

Having put together a PC with some decent speed...
and not having the patience to sit and wait while one DVD backs up,
only to have to put another one in....

has anyone had experience with a (cheap) method of backing up several DVD's at a time?

i have plenty of room in the case for another drive or two if this works...

or is there a better way?

    cheers,

I was curious, so I tried this using AnyDVD HD decrypter/ripper. I put a commercial DVD in each of my three optical drives, a BD ROM, A BD burner, and a DVD Burner. I selected each drive to rip the DVD to my hard drive. I now have three instances of AnyDVD running and all three discs are being ripped to my hard drive at the same time, apparently with no problems.

So I would say it works, at least with my setup.

Now if I needed to process them to a smaller size or a different format, that's not ripping, that's re-encoding. Not sure which programs can batch process a bunch of VIDEO_TS folders at the same time.

You could probably just have multiple instances of the same program running simultaneously. THough if you tried using other programs while the multiple conversions were going on you'd probably have a big slow down unless you are running a six core pc with oodles of ram.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

That's what I have. But I have no reason to batch encode DVDs to a smaller DVD format. But I do occasionally batch encode several VIDEO_TS folders to MKV H.264 with HandBrake. It's fairly fast with CQ 18 used, though it does them one at a time.

XMediaRecode can happily batch encode the titles from multiple Video_TS folders.

    Dude..

encouraged by redwudz experience i rushed out and bought a 2nd burner...

using freemake, i stacked up 2 DVDs, which take about 10-15 minutes each to re-encode on the fly...

this gives me the ability to continuously rip to my media centre - because i only have to check on it every 1/2 hour or so and pop some new DVD's in... i can still have a life and encode quite a few DVD's at a time! cheers,
