  4. I had this problem a while ago and the problem is that companies are not allowed to give out any personal information at all about anyone.

The way I eventually found anything was to do a search on google with the e-mail address and then I found on there that he had posted a few things here and there....

So then I turned ace detective and searched all posts from him on the sites in question and he had given some of his details to someone.
i.e. Name and approximate area was Stoke.
    Guess I got lucky though..

Then I did a search on http://www.192.com and went through the electoral rolls.

Eventually I got 4 or 5 addresses that matched the search in the area and then replied to his e-mail stating all the addresses I had found and that I knew one of them was his.

    Never heard of him again........

  5. i've tried the google thing but no luck. see, this person just developed this address within the past few weeks for the sole purpose of driving my name thru the mud. and for no one to know who he is but, he is not smart enough to fake everything when he signs up for an email account.. i believe there is a way to get more info than just his email address and get it legaly i just have to find out how........thanks for the info though.........

Unfortunately, the problem with e-mail tracing lies in the name that is specified when signing up for an account. I for example have a spare Hotmail account that is used for signing up for free software which has never contained my real name or address. This way, my real e-mail address (provided by my graduate school) is then protected from recieving all sorts of crap, etc. In the same fashion, your annoying e-mail offender is likely to have choosen to use a false identity, meaning that a trace of his name/address would be akin to searching for the Tooth Fairy....i.e. useless. In such a case, you are better off adding the offender's address to your blocked sender's list or changing screenames althogther. If the case is really severe, the IP address can be traced by the authorities and that will be the end of the problem.

Wouldn't it just be easier to add this person to your blocked sender's list and thus never see the messages? As the old adage goes, "out of sight, out of mind". In any case, good luck.

yea. If you get lucky you might. I have e-mail out there from 9 years ago on some of them. You are better off using a mail blocker.

Dude, you forgot to mention the bit where you paid a highly trained assasin, to eliminate his sorry arse from the face of the earth. Before forwarding on his remains to www.manbeef.com

But this dosen't really help if like he says he thinks he knows the guy....

If you were being harassed off someone you thought you knew wouldn't it really bug you not knowing for sure that it was this particular person so that you could sort it out properly and make sure the prick knows that you know it was him.........

  12. what pisses me off is that half the time the companies that spam you are using fake email addresses. Blocking doesn't help one jot, since the company are going under a different name each time they email you.
As a matter of interest, I decided to download a free fake emailer a few weeks back. I thought there was room for a quick laugh at my mates expense. To try it out first though, I send an email addressed from BillGates@Microsoft.com. Despite the fact that the email was sent my mate never received it. I think the emailer was called Eponymous or something....

  14. Your job is at risk and also your reputation? He is spreading lies about you via e-mail?

Hire a lawyer and go after him that way. you could probably get a free initial consultation, wherein they will tell you your options and how much it will cost to proceed.

Or, you can continue half-ass it and accomplish absolutely nothing. It's your choice.

I'm not making light of the situation, but if you have represented the situation accurately, you may need to think about playing hardball. I don't mean "kick his ass" or start his house on fire. Hire a mercenary..one with "Attorney at Law" after their name.

Just off the top of my head, I would say that they (the lawyer) could file a subpoena that would require the offending party's ISP/mail service/etc. to disclose his identity (why ask nice when you can ask with a subpoena, and get your answer for certain), and his name and alleged conduct would then be on record.

They could also send a "cease and desist" letter, demanding that this conduct cease immediately and never again occur, and telling him that legal action will be taken if he persists.

If you desire, they could likely also sue the offending party for reimbursal of your legal fees and costs and perhaps a few more dollars.

There are some interesting precedents for this sort of thing that have occurred recently. In any event, threat of a lawsuit will make most people rethink their conduct, especially if it is highly likely that they will lose!
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  15. I may have this wrong so don't take it as gospel, but an IT technician informs me that there is software you can use to trace the source of offensive emailers. The name was something like BUGOFF or similar. Try this link, I just did a little search on Google:-
    http://www.webattack.com/get/emtracker.shtml
This is a shareware prog that should assist in tracing the source providing the sender isn't a clever person. You can also combine it with Visualroute which will give you the senders geographic location.
As for the lawyer idea, thats great providing your not making the person aware of your accusations before you've gathered the evidence. Maybe a private detective (preferably a dustin emptying dirty one) could take up your case

  16. Bilbogod i was rather curious about the acuracy of the software you recommended. so i decided to try it, i even went a step further and got visual route. Allthough very fun to have they are quite useless if used to track webmail. I used it to check an email my gf sent me today, her webmail server is in france, she is not, the software however only told me where that server is... (i know she did'nt go to france today, i think i would have noticed the 16h absence lol)

  17. I also did this... and also downloaded visual route but I tried it on someones hotmail account.

Now this guy actually does live in Denbigh , Wales but visual route put him in Bangor,Wales which is in Wales but I don't know how far out it was.

The whois feature diddn't seem to work very well though so I went into the help files and it said that I had to rename one of the files in there so I did and then it worked

  18. what i would do, depending on the rest of the situation, is 1st if this guy is seriously affecting your job/family/etc... i'd get a lawyer, if he's making accusations or derogatory remarks about u to your boss or anyone, you can sue him for libel. This has been done alot lately, ppl are starting to learn that the internet, is not an open place for free speech. if it's not really as serious then 1st i'd customize a little eml or any microsoft hole html email msg to dl a trojan to his system. then have my way with him, until he finally gets so freaked that he throws the pc out the window. if that didn't work, i'd get his ip from the email and dos the hell out of him. prolly also sign up for every mail list i could find, spam the crap out've him. report him to every organasation for stopping child porn that he's running a child porn website. and so on.
