  1. When I bring an AVCHD video clip into VirtualDub from my Lumix GH1, VirtualDub only "sees" half of the movie. That is, if you run the scroll bar at the bottom of the screen all the way to the right, you only see the first half of the movie. Any VirtualDub operations that you attempt also end halfway through the clip.

I tried to use MediaCoder to reformat the original movie so that VideoDub would be happier with it, but now VideoDub will not open the resulting MP4 at all (NewMovieFromFile error). I know nothing about Containers, Codecs and the like, so I probably selected a brain-dead output format while running MediaCoder. Perhaps one of you can suggest the proper MediaCoder settings.

You can see my original AVCHD movie (30 MB) at http:\\www.jonbondy.com\P1010101.MOV

You can see the output from MediaCoder (1 MB) at http:\\www.jonbondy.com\P1010101.mp4

Any thoughts about how to get the AVCHD movie into VideoDub so I can work on it? I'm trying to convert movies so that they appear to be time lapse, by removing frames (decimation).

With VD, that's usually caused by a break in the video. Software players can often skip over this, but video editors are more sensitive.

But someone here with more experience with this may have a better explanation and some ideas.

  4. ale5000: in my experience, the QuickTime plugin that is used to open MOV files in VirtualDub has this problem with LOTS of files. Strangely, if you open the video and play it with the QuickTime player, it plays just fine.

Depending on selected video decoder mode. Usually ICM Decomp works well for AVC video and MoviesTask for other.
However Decomp Sequence mode usually does not work too well - I do not understand why this is default mode (QTInput for Avisynth (created by same author) uses MoviesTask as default). Looks like a mistake...?

    BTW
I see full sequence in this video.
Also it's just MJPEG video and PCM audio - can change container to AVI, with no significant problems.
