I recently upgraded my video system to HD (Vizio 42" M420NV HDTV). I had been playing Windows Media Center recordings through the secondary output on my ATI Radeon X300 card into my old TV, extending Windows across both devices.
With the new setup, I switched to the DVI output on the card, connecting through a DVI-to-HDMI cable the HDMI 3 input on the TV. Beautiful - great picture improvement, etc., etc.
However, if I switch the TV source away from HDMI 3, even momentarily, then back to HDMI 3 again, I get a blank screen with a "No Signal" error message on the TV. The only way I have found to get the signal functioning again is to open the Display Properties window to the Settings tab, uncheck "Extend my Windows Desktop onto this monitor" and apply, then recheck and apply again. Bingo, good signal again!
This is making me crazy. I have looked for settings in Windows, the graphics card, and the TV, without any results. Is the communication between the graphics card and the TV two-way? It's almost like the graphics card knows that the TV isn't paying attention anymore, so it turns the signal off!
