Hello savvys, does avchd to mpeg2 look better than just recording in mpeg-2 in the first place with a camcorder?

I guess I mean SD MPEG2 for DVD at DVD bitrates. I'm not sure. I have this Sony camcorder that redords in either AVCHD or Mpeg-2, and I know HD is higher bitrate but I'd like to make a regular DVD of the stuff I've filmed. The question is, let's say I record in avchd and then import the files in, for instance, Sony Vegas and then render as mpeg-2, will that look better than if I record in Mpeg-2 in the first place?

  4. It will depend on a many factors.

I would guess it will probably look worse recording to SD MPEG2 directly, because it is a 1 pass (probably CBR) realtime hardware encoder . Offline software encoders will produce higher quality and allow for multipasses

To be sure, you would have to do some short tests
