Do you know a cheap ftp storage service? I would like to upload photos in size of 40-70GB. Do you know any good company that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?
Thanks!

go hang around www.webhostingtalk.com
they're the best when it comes to advice on storage and hosting -
Get a VPS.
You'll get thrown off shared hosting, as that will break most TOS.
Good list of hosts here: List of Most Suggested Website Hosts and/or visit webhostingtalk.com
What does this mean: "doesn't cost an arm and a leg"
Put a number of that.
Expect to pay AT LEAST $25/monthly, minimum, for a decent VPS.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

what about Microsoft sky drive if you are after cheap, I personally use Mozy

You can use Picasa and create free web albums at Google, then use the URL's in whatever you want to do. I never tried using an FTP client, but I think it's public. If not, just use Picasa as the FTP program.
I don't know how much Google charges for more space, but has to be cheaper than Amazon.
Are you trying to do offsite backup?Last edited by budwzr; 5th Apr 2011 at 22:47.

Dropbox is another option -- but at that price, may as well get a good VPS.
Don't go the cheap route if you care about the quality of service.
Picasa has some terrible EULA/TOS, and I would never host any photos there at all.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Why host off site? Do you want to make ftp available to users for downloading? With todays massive storage hardware available for cheap you could host your own ftp, if you have enough bandwidth for up/downloading. Not having a static ip is not even a problem anymore. Just a thought.
It's not important the problem be solved, only that the blame for the mistake is assigned correctly -

I wouldn't recommend a home user account for any kind of serious bandwidth, but, for example, in my area a comcast business class account will work.

How do I do it? What special software do I need? Can I use my desktop as a server or I need a separate server?

If all he wants is access to his files via ftp, and to share with a few friends his home box will work fine.
Of course hosted services make sense if you need maximum bandwidth. It's not important the problem be solved, only that the blame for the mistake is assigned correctly -
I will try! If it doesn't work out because of the speed I will get a shared hosting. Thanks!!!
