I can scrub (it's not "frozen") but the screen is grey (output and input pane)
manually choosing output format to the same settings (instead of "same as decompression format") makes no difference
pressing "play" results in error with those color depth settings as screenshot:
(those output format settings don't make sense anyways, because it has to be converted to RGB for display, you cannot view Y'CbCr directly on a monitor, they work in RGB. Ie. it has to be converted to RGB for display somewhere along the line)

Try with:
Decompression format => Other... => YCbCr (Rec.601) Limited 4:2:0 interlaced
Output format => 24 bit RGB
Then open the video and when it show a gray video press play.Codec Toolbox RS (A tool to read/change merit of codecs and many other things) -
Yes, I already have, same error when pressing play. I've tried multiple combinations.
In your "bug report" , some of the options do "work on the fly" correctly (i.e without having to close & reopen) , for example, using luminance works fine (black & white) then switching back to autoselect works fine too -
The MPEG-2 input plugin have an internal decoder for audio and video so the error doesn't make sense.
Try to redownload it from the official site: http://home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/Plugins/MPEG2/
Try also to remove the DirectShow input plugin (just to be sure) from the plugins folder of VirtualDub.
In fact I have said "in some cases".Codec Toolbox RS (A tool to read/change merit of codecs and many other things) -
The error does make sense, because interlaced YV12 4:2:0 doesn't exist in the vdub world or the official fourcc specs
Interlaced Y'CbCr should always be YUY2 or 4:2:2
But I'll try your suggestions leaving only a freshly downloaded MPEG2 plugin in the plugins folder , and report back only if they make a difference
It might just be me or the ffew systems I've tested on. Let's get more testers involved, my observations might proove be spuriousLast edited by poisondeathray; 3rd Apr 2011 at 16:26.

What I was saying is that since the MPEG2 input plugin have internal decoders and don't use anything on the system it can't give different results on different pc, it doesn't make sense.
PS: If you have some free time it would be nice if you make an interlaced MPEG1 test video.Codec Toolbox RS (A tool to read/change merit of codecs and many other things) -
ok sorry i misunderstood you
I'll try to whip something up for interlaced mpeg1.
I would like to see some other testers report their findings on this vdub (1.10.1 test7) version and the color depth options ; it just doesn't seem to work for me -
I have re-tried now and the "play button with the O" give the same error as you get but the "play button with the I" (that I was using) works fine.

^Yes it works! Thanks. I had been using the "o". You have to fiddle a bit with it but it eventually works
But there is something wrong with decoded image. There are macroblocks and posterization in dark areas, it seems some data is missing. It looks like reduced color palatte. It's an indirect indicator or measurement, but if you take screenshot from vdub, the png size is about 1/2 that of the one from vdubmod, or even the original one from vdub
I included zip file
BTW switching "on the fly" does work now for most of the other color depth options but only if you use the "I" playback button
BTW, apparently mpeg1 specs (for vcd) don't support interlacingLast edited by poisondeathray; 3rd Apr 2011 at 17:19.

It is still a test version, I will report all bugs and they will get fixed eventually.

Ok thanks. This is very cool. There are some good new features recently like the external encoder feature , mkv input plugin. I'm happy to test & provide feedback
Do you see what I'm talking about ? The reduced bit depth or color palatte? Those screenshots in the zip file don't show it very well, but they show the chroma sampling differences well.
This is frame #0, the 1st is from "autoselect", and the 2nd is from the color depth option. Changing output format to 24bit RGB or same as input format doesn't affect it. You can look at the guy's bicep.

The latest version of the MPEG-2 input plugin add support for new colorspaces (including interlaced ones).
I haven't tried it yet but it may works now.Last edited by ale5000; 15th Jan 2012 at 18:25.
