    Where can I get the raw output from AVCHD Camcorders and HD mpeg too. I have been to several web sites and they all were lacking. I want to test the clips against software to see how functional they are. Today, unless you want to spend hundreds of dollars for software, there are various problems with software $100 or less. I would like to test the magnitude of these problems. As new hardware and software are ahead of the above alluded to software($100), before purchase testing is mandatory. Your assistance will be appreciated. I am looking for the pragmatic experimental FACTS!

  2. I usually search for the camera model and "download" or "sample". Something usually turns up. Steve's Digicams usually has a video file or two in their reviews.

    What kind of $100 software are you looking to test?

    Your listed computer and video card are not up to the AVCHD task. Figure a Core2 quad or better and a "Purevideo HD"* NVidia card for hardware AVC decode.

    For AVCHD editing, a good choice is Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 10. If you shop around you can get it for $70 or less.

    * "AVIVO HD" for ATI

    I am fully aware of the fact of my computer's capability. However, I can process small clips to test software and various small things. I will not upgrade to Sandy Bridge until I know what software can do knowing full well it's another world with Sandy Bridge. Though, I grant you the scope is narrow, still I can test some things.

    Testing can be done on a P4 using lower resolutions and higher bit rates. You may be able to get 1440x1080 60i HDV (MPeg2) or 1280x720 30p "AVCHD Lite" to play.
