Hello, I'm back again. I was recently active on the thread "Pulling data from unfinalized disk".
This problem is solved thanks to you.
But unfortunately I have a new issue now.
I have this other more recent TV recording on videotape. You may ask yourself : more recent and on videotape ????? Well, that's because my dvd recorder was broken at the time and the friend who then recorded it for me also had a problem with his dvd recorder and he put it on videotape.
I'm goin to call this recordering : CCrack. So that you know which recording I'm talking about further is this thread.
Now just a few days ago a friend burned Ccrack to DVD for me (on a DVD+R disk).
But when I play it on my computer the quality is bad (but perhaps the videotape itself sucks).
On my DVD player I cannot play it at all.
So my aim was to demux it and try to edit t.i. improve the video (there are many horizontal lines (interlace ?) and the audio part which is not loud enough and then put it on my USB-stick to play on TV.
So I tried the same procedure as I did for the unfinalized disk.
I made a tao.file first and then tried to demux it.
But... I can only demux the video part. The audio part doesn't work.
The difference now is that the audio part seems to be another format.
When I open the tao.file of Ccrack in Vobedit I see in the left pane that the audio part is shown as
[Audio MPEG Stream CH0], 07ec and sometimes also [Audio MPEG Stream CH0],04cc.
When I try to demux I can't find the right way to do it.
On the unfinalized disk the audio part in the tao.file was listed as AC3.
What bothers me also is, that when I play the tao.file of Ccrack there seems already to be a synchronization problem which isn't there on the DVD itself.
Do I now have to work otherwise, instead of making a tao.file first ?
If there is extra information that you need, please ask me and I will try to provide it.
I look forward to your replies and I already thank you for the effort you all put in to this. Respect !!
A humble Belgian girl.

I hope this is helpfull ? -
The VIDEO_RM folder may be the reason why your disk won't play. See http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/term.cfm/video_rm The audio and video characteristics shown by Mediainfo look normal.
Use VOB2MPG on the VIDEO_TS folder. It will join the VOBs and put them in an .mpg container. You can edit the .mpg with AviDemux. Use File-> Open to import the .mpg. Set both "Video" and "Audio" to "Copy" and set "Format" to "MPEG-PS (A+V)". If the audio and video are not synchronized when you play the .mpg, check the "Shift"box, and enter a positive or negative number of miliseconds to adjust the audio timing. Use the buttons that have 2 arrows/triangles on them to find keyframes. Click "A" at the start and "B" at the end of the section to be removed, then press the Delete key on your keyboard. File->Save->Save Video will export an edited .mpg file. You can put your edited .mpg file on a USB stick at this point.
Sometimes the interlacing lines are present because a software video player does not use a good de-interlacer, and in that case the video will look better on your TV. ...but sometimes they are a capture artifact. Getting a good-looking VHS to DVD transfer can be difficult. I don't do many VHS to DVD transfers, and have little expertise in the area of correcting poor-quality transfers. I do know that fixing some common problems with VHS to DVD transfers after doing the capture is impossible, and learning how to fix the others requires a lot of self-education and experimentation. -
First I made some mistakes using Vob2mpg.
I started from the tao.file which was totally wrong. I encountered several problems including a backdoor trojan horse which was quarantined by my NIS.
And of course, you meant I had to start from the DVD itself.
OK. I had to select IFO mode (VOBSET mode did not work).
I got 6 titles and 7 chapters.
I selected all of them and made it so.
Then I had a mpg.file of the recording (me happy) and I used Mpg2Cut to isolate the wanted show.
Now I want to improve the sound (there's a kind of scratch in it, somewhat like paper being crumpled) and the image which is somewhat blurry.
Which editing program do you recommend for this ?Last edited by Antares; 9th Apr 2011 at 10:41. Reason: eureka !

I'm glad you have a .mpg file now.
Correcting a blurry picture is probably not possible.
I don't have experience fixing audio problems. Someone else will have to help you with that. It probably won't be easy to remove the crackling noise without replacing it with silence. Making the video louder is likely to be easier. -
OK hopefully someone else will pick up from here ?
Thanks again for all the help !!
That's worth three kisses !! (= custom here in Belgium)
