I have been trying mostly, unsuccessfully to convert my Flip Mino Cam footage in an AVCHD format.
One success I had was running one of the MP4 files through mkvmerge to convert to MKV. Then from there I used multiAVCHD to put in and AVCHD format. This actually worked playing from a dvd in my ps3 and it looked great!
The downside was multiAVCHD and tsmuxer would crash if I used more than one file at a time.
Has anyone else had any success converting Flip MP4 footage or knows of a way to do it?

I have a suggestion - why not import the original mp4 directly into multiavchd? It should read the original camera file.
When you say more than one file at a time what do you mean? Did you add it to the list of video files on the front page of the menu? Are you trying to append the video file? Are you trying to batch convert?
I don't know if multiavchd can batch convert. It is such a complex program I can't imagine it doesn't have a batch mode.
You can use other programs to append mp4 files with identical structures (resolution, bitrate, etc). avidemux for example. Than you could take the combined file and load into multiavchd.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Multiavchd won't even take my mp4. It has all sorts of errors when I load them directly.
About loading more than one file at a time. I was trying to drag mutiple files in so they would be one continuous file. This works when I drag MTS files in, so I thought I would try the same with these .
I'm still trying out AVCHDCoder. Results have not been great as of yet, but will try a bit more and see how I go. It's quite heavy on the encoding. It took almost 20mins for 1min of footage.
I will give avidemux a go right now. Cheers! -
@pufffdragon - you could try muxing the original file into m2ts and load that into multiavchd. Assuming tsmuxer (use it on its own) will recognize your files load them there and convert to m2ts. Than you can load that into multiavchd and see if it works better. tsmuxer won't change the file just put it into a new file. You can also append directly with tsmuxer.
Good luck.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Have tried muxing to m2ts,mts, mkv etc. One or two files sometimes work, very rarely though. Thats using mkvmerge, multiavchd and avchdcoder. There is always some problem with encoding the video and audio. The converting of the ACC audio seems to be a big problem.
It's strange that I can get 1 out 20 to work but the rest fail miserably.
I'm determined to crack this. I guess I will soldier on and keep trying. -
I am wondering does flip have any conversion software of its own? You might try that.
It would necessitate an intermediate conversion step and obviously potential loss of quality. But as a test why not try filps software if it has any. Keep it high def and convert it to something flip can output too. Then convert to avchd from that converted file.
Yes its not ideal but perhaps using its own software will help iron out this apparent hiccup you are experiencing.
Edit - you might even get lucky and be able to output directly to avchd with the flip software - slim chance but you could happen. Good luck.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Unfortunately the flip software only lets you edit and create your movies. Authoring has to be done by yourself. They just want to you to burn in SD on a standard DVD. I think the HD output on the flip was more for the purpose of uploading to youtube etc.
I had a little breakthrough last night. (still early days yet). I ran the MP4 through mkvmerge, to make it a MKV file. From there I ran that in multiavchd and chose the MKV (AV) container option. After that encoded I ran it through multiavchd again and chose to output on AVCHD disc.
It might not be an exact science or anything , but it's working.
Btw, love the Bill and Ted quote. That takes me back. -
