I've upgraded to 0.9.4.0 from about 0.9.1.6 or so.

Trying to re-create a DVD from an Italy trip a few years back. Big - 299 photos. (I deleted a few to be under the 300 limit, even though Preview worked fine at 304 slides.)

I have 3 issues/questions. First, when I do "Burn to DVD" I am unclear on what to do when IMG Burn comes up. After a very long time rendering, a couple passes, I don't know what to do. Pick the file to DVD button? OK, but then where is the file? I THINK it is the "temporary" iso file under "Documents and Settings"? Is this correct...I have to note where the "rendering" is going to? This aspect is not covered in the tutorial information that I could find and viewed. The tutorials aren't exact for the current version.

Second, I tried just "Exporting" to an iso file , as a test with just a 4-slide project worked fine, after burning a DVD of the iso file using IMG Burn. But when I did my large project after the lengthy processing (rendering?) time (maybe one-half hour to an hour), IMG Burn said the file was too large to fit on a DVD, like 980 M versus the DVD 700 M size. Hmmmm, I DID burn this successfully a couple years ago. And the Preview time is only 20-25 minutes, not like a full movie time of 90 minutes....

I then resized (using Irfanview) all the photos to about one-quarter size. Then I re-ran DVD slideshow GUI, and did Export. But the file was still too big to burn to DVD, more than 900 M! Does DVD slideshow GUI use the "original" file size rather than what is in the folder now? Meaning I would have to start from scratch with the order of slides, and transitions and such?

    So 3 real issues:
    1. What specific Burn to DVD steps?
    2. How to fit a large project onto a DVD?
    3. Does DVD slideshow GUI "refresh" its look at the target objects?

    Thanks.

Programming? Nope, moving you to our dvd authoring section. And please do not cross post.

I am SO stupid! My bad!

I had grabbed a CD, not a DVD! Realized it when thinking about it, and recalled that 700M is a CD limit, not the 4.7 G of a DVD!

But I still question the Burn to CD procedure, where DVD GUI switched over to IMG Burn.

My apologies for poor posting. The original "search" I did in the forum led me to the Programming section. After I posted my questions, I saw other related links that made me look a little further. I'll be more careful (both content and posting) next time, if any.

  4. On ImgBurn: Normally you should pop in a dvd disk and hit burn. Telling ImgBurn what file to burn is already set up for you.
(Hmm looks like ImgBurn has changed something in how the command line works and isn't opening like it used to. The file is called username/.DVDslideshowGUI/DVDsGUIBurntemp.iso)

700 mb is a CD and not a DVD. DVD's are around 4.3 gb. AFAIK CD's will not work for DVD playback.

I then resized (using Irfanview) all the photos to about one-quarter size.
That doesn't change the size of the exported file. Images are scaled to fit the resolution of a DVD.

  5. I've fixed that command line thing. Download this file, place it in the DVD slideshow GUI folder and allow it to overwrite the old one.

That worked GREAT, tin2tin!! And such quick response to boot!

I hit Burn and it proceeded to do so after its "rendering," with no additional input.

    Thanks a LOT!!

Additional question....The program asks if we'd like to add a backup copy of the photos/slides to the DVD. How does that work? After burning the DVD I could write to it without hurting it? Or the photos would automatically go on it while burning?

Yes, a data folder with the photos is added to the iso. I haven't noticed any problems when playing DVDs on standalone players with this data folder yet.

BTW. on the maximum of 300 slides: it's hardware dependant so if you got a lot of RAM etc. you proberly should be able to go much higher.
