About how much time should one give the computer to "rest" after say a 2 hour capture?

If the temperatures of the cores are under 50C, then you shouldn't have to "rest" at all. You do have a core temp monitor, don't you?

  3. No core temp monitor here, I can hear if the CPU fan ramps up in speed, If I can hear it it needs servicing. Then I know it is time to clean the HSF assembly again. i& stock HSF from Intel. no overclocking, works great.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.

I haven't had overheating with the processor, but the hard drives did get very hot.

    http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
shows hard drive, cpu and video card temps.
