Is there any way to tell what encoder program was used to encode the video on a dvd? For example, would there be any meta information in the m2v file that would tell you? What program woudl I used to access that info?

What about the authoring program that was used to create the menus?

    Thanks!

Not likely. You can try gspot or mediainfo. But I don't think those can find the stamps of what created the video.

Is there any special reason you need this information?
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

As you thought, gspot isn't ginving me the info when I examine the VOB file of interest, although it seems to pick up come info when you use it to look at an avi file.

The reason I want to know is that a dvd sold by a company sticks or stutters at a specific spot for a number of customers who have complained. The company said there is nothing wrong and the prblem is with their dvd players that can't handle the high bit rate at that point in the video. I used the DVD Bit Rate View program to check, and the bit rate is actually rather low at that spot as there is not much motion in the squence. The company is being as*holes to customers - I am suspecting some sort of encoding error on their part which they want to deny. I wan tot find out what ecoder they used so I can be more knowledgable when I next talk to them. I suspect they think their customers are all too dumb to look into these things.
