  1. Hello,
i'm looking for a TV/converter box with the following features:
    • component (YPbPr) + audio input
    • HDMI output
    • upscaler (e.g. from 480p to 1080p)
    • deinterlacer (e.g. from 480i to 480p)
    • 5v-powered

I'm planning to use the box with my HP 2159 computer monitor that supports progressive video signal only.

Monoprice being my favorite cable and converter place to shop:

A Component (or VGA, w/sound option) to HDMI:

    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011404&p_id=...seq=1&format=2

Your monitor has VGA as well, so you could try this for a little less money:

    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011407&p_id=...seq=1&format=2

NOTE: Do NOT get any of the component to VGA cables. A converter is needed for what you want to do.
    Have a good one,

    neomaine

  3. Thanks for your suggestions.
I prefer shopping from dealextreme.com because shipping to my country from USA is more pricey.
I've found very similar products in their shop:
    http://www.dealextreme.com/p/ypbpr-component-video-to-vga-converter-22845
    http://www.dealextreme.com/p/component-video-ypbpr-to-hdmi-converter-box-with-spdif-au...io-input-29772
    http://www.dealextreme.com/p/vga-component-video-audio-to-720p-hdmi-v1-2-converter-100-240v-ac-22317

BTW i'm not totally sure they perform deinterlacing and upscaling.

Also i prefer HDMI over VGA because it is digital (better quality) and can carry both video and audio signal with a single cable.

I read some of the reviews, and it appears most of analog to HDMI converters don't upscale. The one I saw that does upscale has a set resolution of 720p. They are intended for use with TVs, or other AV equipment, so they generally don't de-interlace either. I doubt that the item you want exists.

[Edit] I don't know what source in your country has it, but here's a link to the one I found that upscales to 720p: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0016SN49Y/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf...DDE859PGRQ2605

[Edit 2] Never mind. It looks to be the same thing as the item in the third link in #4 above.

A fixed 720p upscaler isn't a good solution because my monitor has a native resolution of 1920x1080, so the image would be upscaled 2 times (the 2nd by the internal monitor processor), would lose quality and timing.

Instead i've found this one that is closer to what i was looking for:
    VD-W3 Wii HDMI Upscaler Processor

It's a bit pricey and wii-specific (can't be used with other consoles), but it seems it does the job.

That link shows a price of $59 for me. If it performs adequately, then you should consider yourself lucky to have found anything at all that can work with your console and a monitor instead of a TV, let alone something that inexpensive.

  7. Another wii-specific upscaler is HDMIKey (still to be released).
Sadly, all the general purpose component-to-HDMI upscalers i've found are very pricey.
