Hi
I just bought this under your $19 offer. I too am finding that it hangs on mpg files. I've had to use a bulk rename utility to rename them as *.mpg.bin so that VSP will ignore them. I look forward to the version that will allow me to control which files it looks at by suffix.
Might I offer another suggestion too please. You have the "Skip first 3 minutes" option too. Might I suggest that you allow the user to specify how many minutes or seconds to skip. I'd like to be able to specify skipping the first 90 seconds or so.
I hope this is helpful.
Many thanks.
IJM.

I've been using this now for a few days. I echo IJM's suggestion for a variable skip time. I have a number of short videos that have a short intro before continuing.
Its been finding numerous duplicates which what I expected. So far I've only searched .avi files. Only issue is that when scanning over a few thousand files, it eventually takes the CPU utilization up to 100% and stays there, even after exiting the program. Rebooting so far is the only way I have found to recover.
Some suggestions for the program. An 'About' feature to know which version is running. Also a way to check for updates, either manually or automatically. -
A further few suggestions for you. In order to be able to efficiently use the list of duplicates that you finally get out of vsp, the user needs a few additional functions to aid the work process.
- You need the ability to remove items from the list of duplicates without deleting the files. For instance, say vsp has identified a group of several files as duplicates. But on examination, the files some or all of the files are not duplicates. I want to remove the irrelevant files from the list leaving only the ones I want to deal with.
- I want the ability to be able to rename files within the list. For instance, files A and B are identified as duplicates, file A is the better file, but file B has a more descriptive name. I want to be able to rename file A before I get rid of file B.
- It would be also very useful to be able to open a Windows Explorer window at the folder location of any given file, with the relevant file highlighted. So if I have file D:\A\B\c.wmv in the list, I want to be able to open an explorer window showing the contents of folder D:\A\B with c.wmv already selected.
- I would also feel very much more comfortable if there was also some kind of locking function to prevent accidental deletions. So if each item in the list has a little padlock icon which would toggle between locked and unlocked.
- Add a right click context menu so that when you click an item in the list you can manually select the function you want. e.g. showing a list of Open, Open containing folder, Copy, Cut, Delete, Remove from list.
- Finally, an option to be able to save and recover the result lists. I know the search would be quicker second time around because of the fingerprint cache. But the user might be half way through working through the list from which he may already have taken some actions such as removing irrelevant files (see idea 1 above). It would be so much better if I could save my list and so that I can return to it later.
I hope you like these ideas and I hope you are able to use them to improve your product. -
I might have a totally different use for this product. I've been looking for a way to test whether certain export functions on NLE software re-encode, when they should not re-encode.
For example, iMovie HD 6.0.4 (an old version) has a Full Quality export feature which I've used extensively after doing straight cuts on DV material, to create new DV files. So far, my only way of testing whether it doesn't re-encode (it shouldn't) is by looking at whether the metadata (i.e., from the camcorder or capture device) survives in the newly created DV files. To test, I export an unedited DV clip to DV using the Full Quality setting, and compare the before and after clips. In this case, the metadata survives, which is encouraging. But I would like to find a way to test whether the video and audio data is unaltered. I could use software that would reveal whether the video and audio data is exactly the same, as it should be.
Now, I also want to test Final Cut Pro X's exporting from DV to DV. I don't understand all this Pro Res rendering in the background, what it does to my DV when I am only doing straight cuts. -
I recently bought VSP or Duplicate Video Search.
I got a link via Regnow to Visual Search Pony (former name) 14.3 (latest version also of Duplicate Video search= new name). Confused? well I am!
Ok, that aside, I sent a mail as to clarify this, which to use? (as the sizes of VSP 14.3 and DVS 14.3 DIFFER!).
I sent this mail one week ago, NO answer.
Secondly, both programs crash when I turn on the "skip first 3 minutes" option ?!
Thirdly, this program is NOT nearly as accurate as Video Comparer which I bought as VSP or should I say Duplicate Video Search is not performing at all.
Video Comparer is doing the job above expectation. Nice feature is that it really detects dupes even when a file is cut! -
vsp/Alex,
I'm aware that some personal programs arise out of a student's PhD research. I was wondering if you have any articles on arxiv. I'm curious about video fingerpinting for another use.
-To detect the list of censored scenes relative to several versions, or otherwise detect editing and re-ordering
-To compare two very noisy clips to look for edits (in my case, single dropped frames)
I'm mostly wondering if your algorithm is robust against extreme noise. For now I am using the correlation method, which is robust against brightness, contrast, and pixel order (though that doesn't really apply). I know that log space can be invariant to scale and rotation, but I don't need these features. I'm only having some success in the case of a lot of added noise. ps it isn't just noise but opaque pixels added, as salt and pepper. -

I'm aware about this clone and I suppose you are the author of this
I'm pretty sure the problems you are reffering to are not taking place anymore. Please let me know the purchase ID, so we can assist in using our software. In case not - please try to reproduce them using the latest version and send me the log file.
IRQtheCat, IJM and all who posted to this thread,
We've made a new version 15.0, which is faster and more stable then before. There should be no hangs or crashes any more.
Please download the latest version 15.0 of DVS at http://duplicatevideosearch.com/download/dvssetuphwl.exe. Run it and send me the hardware ID to info@duplicatevideosearch.com or using contact form on our website, so we can generate a key for you. This is free for all participants of this thread.
If you experience any crashes or other problems with the software, please turn logging on (now it is possible to do that, using a tick on the right pane) and send us the log file, located at C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\DVS\logs.txt
IJM, IRQtheCat,
Thank you for suggestions and bug reports. We will implement at least a few of suggestions in the next release (variable skip and file's masks for sure). This will be done soon and we will let you know about that. Enjoy v15.0 for now.
We've put a version number to the program's title, so now it is possible to track updates manually. Also if you want to be notified about new releases, please send us an email to info@duplicatevideosearch.com and we will write to you, each time we release smth.
Thank you for support and suggestions again. -

For your task, I would first try to decompose video on scenes. In papers this is usually reffered as "shot based video retrieval". This should help to detect missed or reordered scenes or scenes with changed length.
I'm not sure, regarding single dropped frames. I think it will be hard to detect that. Various encoding can provide various number of frames for each video interval. Most of encodings are not saving all the frames at all, just so called key frames + difference and motion estimation.
Good luck with your research.Last edited by DuplicateVideoSearch; 29th Aug 2012 at 17:24.

Ok, installed 15.0 ok, however, how to find the hardware ID.
Sorry, just found it. -
We've just released 15.1. All, please update to that.
- added variable skip
- added an ability to disable any video format
- fixed bug
We will appreciate any feedback.Last edited by DuplicateVideoSearch; 30th Aug 2012 at 19:32.

Feedback: LAV filters crash the application:
Faulting application name: vsp.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x50412295
Faulting module name: LAVSplitter.ax, version: 0.43.0.0, time stamp: 0x4ef1f6ed
No longer finds duplicates correctly. Lists duplicates that are obviously not duplicates. Doesn't list duplicates that are unlike previous which did show them. Seems to list everything it doesn't recognize as duplicates within one group.
Edit: Also the download links on your webpage still downloads the wrong version, same since day one. The link in your previous post does though. Web page file size is 4.4 MB. V15.3 is 5.9 MBLast edited by IRQtheCat; 2nd Sep 2012 at 06:45. Reason: More feedback

IRQtheCat,
Thank you for the feedback and additional information, provided by email.
I'll copy results here, so other can use that info too.
1) LAV filters seems to be ok and not crashing the latest version of the app., at least we and IRQtheCat couldn't reproduce that after reinstalling LAV filters.
2) For higher accuracy please set Video Indexing Options > Index 9 seconds. The default value of 3 seconds is minimum possible for any work to be done and provides fastest results.
3) On our website we provide a TRIAL version of the software, which is limited and so has a smaller size. Here I've provided a link to the full version, which is usually available from purchase confirmation email only. That is why the file size is different.
Appreciate all your help. -
Your site is still marked as malware from google chorme and firefox...
Now you site also missing the wordpress configuration file...
And also, 99 dollar is way too much for a utility who arent strable at all, i try the demo before the site when offline and crashed ofthen when read flv...
if was a 20/30 dollar software, ok but a 99 dollar software i expect to work like a charm in any condition...
EDIT
now the site load (empty page but load)... and if i try to buy the software cost 50 dollar, more acceptable also if still a little high priced in my opinion.
So the question is, this software will continue to be upgraded? if i buy a license, how many update i will receive?Last edited by riccetto80; 2nd Feb 2013 at 16:17.

I buy because was at 19 dollar with discount...
But im not too happy about this software, crash too often, with wmv and flv video specially... -
So, before i had a old k/lite codec pack installed...
Crash crash crashhhh...
I installed windows 7 coder, crash...
i deleted windows 7 coder, installed the last klite coded, both 32 and 64 bit like is suggested in klite codec page...
crash, but now dont even give an error, simple the program close when are in action the lav media coder and lav media splitter (random)...
So i try to set the microsoft coder as default, instead of lav coder...
crash, crash, crash... sometimes simple close, somethimes gove error about the program crashed...
I notice also some bug like:
if you select or not select the "cache video signature" option, the result is the same, the program will anyway create the cache file in roaming dvs and leave there this file... plus, the program dont use the windows temp location, so if you have a ssd this program write 1000000 little file on the ssd, very nice...
i try to activate the log but dont say anything about the error/crash...
if you have the video cache signature active, and you use the same settings to do another scan, the program will anyway recreate all files and recalculate the signature also of video you already have the signature... amazing...
I will try to contact the developer and ask help... -

After a lot of test i realize the .vmw are the one who make this software crash "for sure"... and some flv/mp4...
-
PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
with log active i was able to understand the video make the crash, and check it, was some wmv video who was broken... i deleted this videos and now the program run without crash...
anwyay it is bad the program crash, if a single video is impossible to be read properly... need to go to the next video without crash, because if you check 2.000 video and just 1 is broken/cannot be rendered properly you are fucked, you lost 1 hour for nothing...
