The maximum data transfer rate for the Firewire/1394 bus is 400Mb/s (Megabits per second) or 50MB/s (Megabytes per second).
However I think you are asking about the bitrate of DV video over Firewire/1394, which is about 25Mb/s or 3.6MB/s. DV doesn't use the full bandwidth capacity of Firewire/1394.
All Firewire cards are theoretically capable of the 400Mb/s maximum, but some cards are more compatible with certain cameras and other peripherals, and some cards perform better than others. In general the TI (Texas Instruments) chipset-based cards such as the ADS Pyro and others are a good choice. -
