    Hi.

What is the bit rate for Firewire cards?

Do Firewire cards have different bit rates?

    Thank you.

  2. The maximum data transfer rate for the Firewire/1394 bus is 400Mb/s (Megabits per second) or 50MB/s (Megabytes per second).

However I think you are asking about the bitrate of DV video over Firewire/1394, which is about 25Mb/s or 3.6MB/s. DV doesn't use the full bandwidth capacity of Firewire/1394.

All Firewire cards are theoretically capable of the 400Mb/s maximum, but some cards are more compatible with certain cameras and other peripherals, and some cards perform better than others. In general the TI (Texas Instruments) chipset-based cards such as the ADS Pyro and others are a good choice.

    Hi.

    Thanks JHebert.

It's funny you mentioned the ADS Pyro. I was looking in to getting that.

ADS is part of Texas Instruments?
