    i know it's hard to believe but the very first computer virus was made and released 40 years ago:

    Interesting. The one that was nasty was Stoned. Your computer gradually ran slower and slower. Most of these virii at at that time were spread by exchanging floppy discs, since there was no internet yet. Viruses were pretty easy to clean in the DOS days; soon as you knew the name of the file, you just entered DOS mode, "pathed" your way to the entry and deleted it. Once you entered DOS edit mode the virus had no way to defend itself. The super-viruses today exist mainly because of GUI interfaces which use self-executing commands so that they are easy to use for the average person. Easy to exploit.
