  1. Hey guys,
    My
"Philips DVP5992 1080p HDMI Upscaling DVD Player with USB 2.0 and DivX Ultra" suddenly has discoloration in its picture. It went from being normal to a neon blur.

I put in a DVD, played it for 5 minutes, ejected, stopped it. Came back a couple hours later to play the same DVD and then the discoloration.

It's connected via HDMI. I've tried 2 HDMI cables. I reset the player to its default settings. Changed the HDMI resolutions. Nothing.

The picture is fine however, when you connect it via Composite Cables.

    Thank you in advance.

Do you have another device with hdmi? I'd check to see if it has the same symptoms. Hopefully its not the case but perhaps the hdmi input on the tv has gone bad?
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

  3. Hm, yeah that could be it. Or maybe it's the player's HDMI.
I'll try another HDMI device at a later time. As right now I don't have one available.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

The HDTV has 3 HDMI inputs, i've tried 2 of them.
Could it be that all of them have gone bad ?

Actually you are right as well. I forgot the dvd player hdmi out could be shot. If you have another hdtv or if you could try it on a neighbors tv that would let you know if the dvd players hdmi out is fried.

Try all 3 on the hdtv. If all 3 have problems thats not good.

If one still works you can get an hdmi switcher to return to multiple inputs on the one good input.

Unplug the player from the power outlet and leave it unplugged for at least half an hour (probably less, but it doesn't hurt), then plug it back in.

It's an issue that seems to happen every once in a while to some 5990/5992 owners (including me) - the HDMI connection displays a neon-colored signal (an orange tint seems common). The only way to resolve it appears to be to unplug the player from the power supply for a bit and then reconnect it, effectively resetting a few things.
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
