  1. I have a JVC Everio GZ-MS120BU, which uses a proprietory file type--.mod. I'm converting to .mpeg, but Movie Maker won't let me combine two files--the option is greyed out. Anyone have any thoughts?

If anyone has any free software alternatives for Windows XP, I'm just looking to be able to do some basic stuff, like splitting, combining, create title/credit pages, transitions and the ability to 'speed up' or 'slow down' a section of a film. I'm sure there are words to describe that, but have no idea what that's called.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Can you import the mpg in movie maker? It might require a mpeg2 decoder...but it's still very buggy. Maybe you could convert the mpg to avi/dv-avi with xmedia recode, avidemux, etc and then edit it with movie maker.

And there aren't any other free advanced/non-linear video editors that support mpeg2 video. Mpeg video wizard dvd($100) is one of the best editors for mpeg video.
