Ok I have a 3 1/2 hour movie cap from my hauppauge hd pvr via my cable hd pvr.
I have tried two or three times now with the bundled arcsoft software to make a basic avchd disc. Each time I get a avchd that is less than the full recording. Generally around 3 hours.
Is this a functional limitation of the software itself?
I did a test encode with multiavchd but I had issues with the audio - it did not copy at all - ac3 5.1 via fiber optic.
I am going to proceed with a test on avchdcoder. I have never used that software before.
Would you rather recommend I try ripbot264 now that it has a avchd output mode?
Edit - well I started the process with avchdcoder.
I set it to dl and medium quality. It is going to do a 2 pass encode. Is there an option somewhere to set it to 1 pass?
Also when would I choose the remux option? This is a m2ts from my hauppuage hdpvr. Is this all set for a remux? Or does it need to be fully encoded? I'm doing a full encode on my first test with the software.
I do like the ease of use compared to multiavchd. As much as I like multiavchd it is a bit cumbersome and tricky to find certain things.
Edit 2 - Holy crap! 7 hours on the first pass alone? I have a 2.7ghz dual core amd. Is this normal for a hd h264 file?
I did a 1 pass encode with multiavchd and the whole thing took 7 hours. Is there a 1 pass option I hope? I'll still let it finish but my god.....
Edit 3 - Ok pass 2 turns out would have been 18 additional hours....
Hell no...
Ok so I stopped avchcoder obviously.
I will retry multiavchd. I'll see if there is someway to force the audio to be kept untouced. The last time I tried with multiavchd I got great video but no audio. I'll see how this goes.
Edit 4 - ok this time I did multiavchd. I used the original audio I had ripped from the capture file. I used that to replace the audio and authored with multiavchd. I did it in about 5 hours overnight.
I checked it this morning. I burned the result and tested it on my ps3. It almost worked perfectly! I had burned it to a verbatim +r dl. It looked to be working perfectly and in sync.
UNTIL about the 3 hour mark. Then it went gradually out of synch. I think I'm screwed with this capture. Its not vital to save. But it is challenging me.
I have decided to keep this disc since it does work sans the synch issue at the end.
What i have done is copied it to my external harddrive so I can use it with my gen 1 wdtv player. I am going to stop wasting time and discs with this particular capture. My other smaller captures don't have this issue.
Is there something about 3+ hour captures in the avchd world? Or was it just some glitch in this particular job?
