Hi. I have the Panasonic HDC-TM300, pal system and love it, but i have a doubt about the frame rate. Either i record in digital cinema mode on or off, the mts file always have 25p. I mean, it should be 50i with digital cinema off. Am I wrong? See image below. Thanks

The frame-rate for 25p and 50i footage often appears as '25fps'. If you use a program like mediainfo, it shows additional information such as 'scan type' to distinguish between interlaced and progressive video.

    Code:
    Width : 1 920 pixels
    Height : 1 080 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 16:9
    Frame rate : 25.000 fps
    Color space : YUV
    Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0
    Bit depth : 8 bits
    Scan type : Interlaced
Scan order : Top Field First
Additionally, videos recorded with my Canon HFS21 always show 'Interlaced' as the scan type, even when I've selected 25p on the camera. The camera is running at 25p (no time difference between the fields), but the camera seems to be encoding the video as an interlaced .mts/.m2ts stream - which can be a bit confusing.

So that means that I don't have 50fps and only have 25fps files to work with?

I've downloaded the manual for the TM300 here:
    http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/HDC-TM300/Manuals/6297303/index.html?trackInfo=true
and looked at the product spec. here:
    http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/HDC-TM300/Specification/6297216/index.h...trackInfo=true
which suggests that the camera records at 1080/50i.

However, from other comments online it seems that the TM300 does have a 25p mode, but stores the 25p video in a 50i file - which can be confusing. See post #10 here:

50i is actually 50 fields per second. Two fields go together to make up a full frame.
50 fields = 25 'full frames' per second.
Computer programs often show '50i' videos as 25fps.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interlaced_video

If you have your camera set to 50i and want to upload video to websites like YouTube, you need to de-interlace your footage beforehand. If you don't de-interlace, you'll see artefacts like this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Interlaced_video_frame_%28car_wheel%29.jpg
*De-interlacing isn't necessary if you want to transfer your videos to DVD/Bluray to play on a TV.

If you've got your camera set to 25p, you don't need to de-interlace prior to uploading.

Because of the way Panasonic (and Canon) camcorders record 50i and 25p, the details you see on your computer screen might not appear to match the original recording mode.

I hope that's not too confusing

Ok. Now make sense. I was thinking that 50i was 50fps and that made me confuse! Thank you for explanation!
