  2. IDX/SUB subtiles are pictures, not text. They can contain any image you want (though the color palette is limited). You would use an image editor to draw the subs then a subtitle editor to convert the images to IDX/SUB. I think DVD SubEdit can do this:

Thanks jagabo, the thing is I don't know where to get those images. I'm trying to make karaoke videos in which I need to sync the lyrics along the music (link below), and those icons on the pic are from a commercial DVD, so just want to know what exactly is that software that they are using. : ) Do you think it could be as simple as they used any program like Premiere or Vegas and added those icons in?

Another option would be to use a 'dingbat' font which contains similar male/female symbols:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dingbat
    http://www.fontspace.com/category/dingbats

(as long as you're subtitle editor supports standard .ttf fonts)

On a quick search I couldn't find anything that closely matched your example, but you might have more luck:

Thanks intracube, even though I couldn't find the images either but you just taught this newbie something new and cool! Anyway, from wat you just said I believe this is just a type of font like Windings and they just change the color for it easy to recognize, and damn it 'cause I "forgot" the name. jk : )

  6. You can just cut the picture out of the video, make an alpha mask, and paste it into your subtitle image.

DVDSubEdit allows individual frames from .sup files (from VOB or .sup files) to be saved as bitmaps, and replaced by bitmaps. An image editor is used to manipulate the bitmaps and add your pictures. Handling colors would be tricky and it would be a lot of work if there are many frames to edit, but this is the best solution I could come up for you to try with if you can't find suitable dingbats.

Thanks jagabo and usually_quiet, I wish I could have a bit of you guys' knowledge to play with those "new vocabularies"! ^^ Anyway, I just gave up finding it 'cause one of my friend just told me that the images could be from a "very old" karaoke software that now still cost 2 thousand bucks! And that I don't think I'm gonna try it even if I'm an billionaire. : ) So, thanks again for all your help (u2 intracube) and if you have time, check out my first karaoke video ever, just remember I'm still a very newbie before making any complain. jk :P
