I'm brand new to the site. I've been pouring over the guides and love all the information but I can' seem to find information I need. I want to be able to edit my DVD's and keep the original menu. For instance, I have district 9 (great movie), but my kids want to see it. They aren't old enough to handle the mature language and some of violence. I want to be able to edit out that content, but keep the rest of the DVD the same, including the menu. I've looked at a some software such as DVDRemake, Womble, TMPGenc, but it looks like with these you have to create your own menu system. I don't want to do that. Any ideas? I tried searching but I don't know enough of the lingo to make my searches very good.![]()

ditch the menus. the kids don't want or need them anyway. go movie only and edit to your heart's desire. but the kids can probably handle more than you want to think.

I guess that would work, then how would they jump to scenes? It would be like sticking in a VHS tape and having to fast forward to where you want. Is it not possible keep the menu? Thanks for such a quick response.

You're probably gonna get a caution about your thread title.
I suggest you re-title it: Edit DVD and keep menu?
Anyway I agree about the menus. Easiest way would be to re-author with DVDShrink and use the Start/End Frame function to cut out what isn't wanted. DVDShrink will re-map the movie preserving *existing* chapter locations. Here's how:

That's the general idea, but to make multiple cuts, you need to reauthor multiple instances of the main movie. Like this:
http://www.dvdshrink.info/re-author-advanced.php
Another way is with VobBlanker, harder to learn but a more elegant method certainly. Any guide will do.
If you insist on keeping menus, you can do the above, then add back the original menu with this method:
http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/guides/VobBlanker/adding_menus/index.htm
This is not exactly advanced stuff, but it's a steep challenge for a beginner. But anyway, have a go and see for yourself.
Good luck and welcome to the forum.Last edited by fritzi93; 7th Mar 2011 at 21:48.

So far things are going well. I had it mostly done when I realized the captions weren't showing up (from the aliens talking). Now I gota figure out how to get those back on the video.
