  1. Is there a hack for the Toshiba portable DVD player SDP94S? I acquired this player understanding that it was an all region player and I would be able to play my Region 2 dvd's on it. Unfortunately, I was mistaken. That is not so.

Does anyone have an unlock hack for this player?

    Thank you.

According to the manual, it does however play both NTSC and PAL so theoretically if you simply copy your discs they should play.

  3. Thanks for the info. I tried, but I can't copy the discs because of copy protections. I found a program on the net that promises to let you unlock and copy your dvd's for $40, but I don't know if I want to spend $40 on something that might not work after I spent $122 on a player that isn't all region. I will post here if I find any type of a fix.

  5. Thank you for the link. I did not try it as I had just decided to download and pay for DVDGhost, which appears to be a very good program. It takes the region protection off when you install it on your computer and so any region dvd will pl on that computer. I tried it with my Region 2 dvd's and also tried the Region 1 and they both work great, although it takes a little longer to load the disks. You are also able to burn region free discs so you can use them on players that aren't hooked up to a computer. I have not tried this function yet.

I decided to go with a program that you have to pay for because you get support with it. (You might with some free programs too, I don't know.)

The program I used is: DVD Ghost...here is the link.

Charlot - Welcome to the forums. I hope you took notice of the following lessons you learned the hard way.

    1) Portable players almost never have unlock codes any more. Even back some years ago when many if not most DVD players could be unlocked it was still difficult to find portables that could be unlocked outside of a few models by Philips and some Chinese companies. Note that combo players (TV/DVD, DVD/VCR, etc.) are also almost impossible to unlock.
    2) People who sell to you will lie about the capabilities of the device. You need to confirm before buying that a player that some salesperson says can be made region free really can be made region free.
    3) Most DVD players sold in the USA and Canada cannot be unlocked.

Never heard of DVD Ghost. For all I know you wasted your money on a rebranded free program. If you need to pay for software to do this, the only programs I would trust are AndDVD and the various DVDFab products. Perhaps a bit more patience might be a good idea too. Just curious - on what basis did you decide that you were qualified to judge the merits of DVD Ghost and ignore Noahtuck's good suggestion - a flashy webpage?

  7. Hello. I did not ignore Noahtuck's suggestion...it came after I had already purchased the DVD Ghost software. A flashy website and fancy advertising does NOT make me order something. In fact it turns me off. DVD Ghost does not have a flashy website, they have the information about the program listed and how much the software costs right up front. I had purchased some other software made by this company before and I knew they were reputable. I perhaps should have waited, but I had to find out if I should send the player back or what, I had only a certain amount of time to do so.

I had been trying to find out information about the region codes and various DVD players and I was having a difficult time finding anything worthwhile. Most of it was just very generic. I finally ordered the player. After I ordered it, I found your website, not knowing before that this kind of website existed. I did find some unlock codes here for players with very similar model numbers , but they must be older players. I just chalk it up as a learning experience.

I am knowledgeable about computers, having worked with them since the mid 1980's, but I didn't know anything about the portable dvd players, although some were advertised as being all region. I had talked to some people I knew that had experience with these players before, but they gave me advice that was probably outdated. So you live and learn.

Anyway, I thank everyone for their suggestions. DVD Ghost is a good program though, and it does more than just unlock the region codes. I am happy with it.
