I'm trying to take OTA HDTV (in mpg container) and do the following:
1) Remove all audio except English track
2) Remove commercials by splitting into clips
3a) Combine clips with transitions while losing not reencoding (transitions desired but not necessary)
3b) Combine clips while not reencoding
Here is my workflow with the free tools that I have found so far. The main stumbling block is that when stripping the non-English audio channels with tsMuxeR, it converts the file to a non-mpg format. Does anyone know of a good free utility to convert .ts or .m2ts back into .mpg without reencoding? Here my workflow and the utility I have found for each step.
1) tsMuxeR = Remove extra audio tracks from .mpg file
1a) ????? = convert .ts or m2ts file back to .mpg
2) Mpg2Cut2 = Split .mpg file into commercial free clips
3a) ???? = Combine clips and add transitions without reconversion (Womble, VideoRedo, any others)?
3b) tsMuxeR = Combine clip files and output as Blu-Ray without reconversion
Thanks in advance for your help!

2)A mpg multiplexer, mplex, ffmpeg, tmpgenc(under file->mpeg tools), imagompeg-muxer. But why do you need a mpg?
3a) Forget any free tools if you don' want to reconvert everything. Mpeg video wizard dvd can add transitions and only reconvert the transition part. -
Mpg2Cut2 only works with MPG's, so that's the only reason I need an MPG again (and tsMuxeR doesn't allow saving back to an MPG). Are there any good free tools that can split .ts or .m2ts files into clips as well/easily as Mpg2Cut2?
Do any of the big name video editing packages (Vegas Video, Corel VideoStudio, etc...) do transitions without reconverting the entire video?
Thanks for your reply!

With HDTV2Mpeg2 you can choose the audio track, edit out commercials, save to a mpeg file and it's free.

Just to finish up with a status on what ended up working the best for me. In order to not reencode and lose quality, I ended up doing the following:
1) Cut out commercials from my MPG file using "Womble's MPEG Video Wizard DVD"
2) Adding transitions using "Womble's MPEG Video Wizard DVD"
3) Converting to TS file (or Blu-Ray) using tsMuxeR
I'm very happy with the output and I highly recommend Womble as a great tool (although it's not free after the trial)!
