no sound from converted avi to mpg

Guys, trying to convert a 1hr42 min avi to mpeg1 for vcd, tried TMPGE but had no audio, then extracted audio off with v/dub then tried converting using TMPGE again no audio. Used ULEAD Movie factory then to convert to vcd, had partial success, had audio for the first hour off the movie and then lost it alltogether for the last 40 minutes, the original avi is fine, any ideas or previous encounters and fixes with this prolem would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like dvd rip.

Vdub ALWAYS works with extracting out wav from avi, just make sure its set like this-

Import avi, select use avi audio, full processing mode, then save wav

thanks Sean, your spot on about it being a dvd rip,how did u guess, I'll try what you have suggested and post results.
