Hi. I have a Western Digital "WDTV Live Hub" and in the list of playable file types is WMV9/VC-1. But some WMV9's don't play and I've established that they're the ones with Format Profile:CP (as disclosed by my PC player, KMPlayer). I thought about it and came up with Copyright Protected as a possible meaning of CP. However, on the computer under Properties/Details it says Content Protected: No.
Can anyone suggest why these WMV9's aren't playing on my WD device?
Many thanks.

If the problematic WMVs are DRMed, Windows Media Player will
attempt to "download the license" or something before starting to play them.
Anyway, here is a thing that some codecs/players may have problems with:
Width : 400 pixels
Height : 300 pixels
+++++
EDIT:
I think "CP" stands for "Complex Profile",
and this is what the MultiMedia Wiki says about it:
When VC-1 data is encapsulated inside of an ASF file it will be accompanied with setup data attached as the extradata of a BITMAPINFOHEADER data structure. In VC-1 parlance, this data is called the sequence layer. The format of this data is as follows:
2 bits: profile (0 - simple, 1 - main, 2 - complex, 3 - advanced). Complex profile is not covered by VC-1 standard and may occur in old WMV3 files where it was called "advanced profile".Last edited by El Heggunte; 3rd Mar 2011 at 07:37.

My thanks to you all. Reckon I'll stick with my current cure - any 'CP' WMV9's I find, I'll simply convert with xmediarecode.
