Your DVD player can read CD-R, for MP3 play back, but can't read VCD, check the spec and if you don't see VCD then it can't read VCD ...
I have try to see spec of your player, but the toshiba new zeland site give crap information about your player
Check your manuals -
yea, it actually does play vcd's, but just not burnt ones.
it plays dvd, and vcd and some other thing I cant remember. -
Your DVD player probably wasn't designed to play CD-R or CD-RW media (many aren't). Try playing an audio CD on the same media. If it doesn't work, then you have a media compatibility issue.
You can experiment with different brands of CD-R to try to find one that works. Often CD-RW works better in these cases.
