i'm curious as to why alot of people are using TMPGENC to encode to mpeg2 when recording dvd-r's. i have ulead mediastudio pro 6.5 and it has the option to capture straight to mpeg2... is this not good? i've noticed when reading some threads that almost everyone is using TMPGENC. does this program allow better quality than what ulead can give? thanks for any info and insight on this. peace

There things in encoding beyond commercial standards. Ulead don't support them. TMPGenc does...

You see, with Unlead, you can encode a movie and fit it on a DVD - R, and that is OK.
With TMPGenc, you can fit 2 - 3 movies on the same DVD - R, and the quality Looks the same on most mainstream TVs....

Let say that Unlead is like a standard VCR, with SP writing abilities.
With TMPGenc, you have also LP (D2 resolution) and EP (D4 Resolution) abilities.

    And, it is almost free.....
