I have some avi/mp4 files I converted to dvd compliant vobs. most are around 1.75 to 2.5 gb
I already know how to make them into a dvd. I can run the vob into dvd author go through the wizard and let it churn ouyt a video folder that I can then burn to a DVD
is there a simpler faster way to do this? a drop in a vob and click "burn" me a dvd? no menu's or anything just make a compliant dvd from a compliant but too large vob (IE handle the breaking it up making the bup ifo files and burning it) a click and go solution?
thanks!

AVSTODVD or other programs. You don't need a menu. But it will still take some time to author.
You could TRY to put it in a video_ts folder and burn the vob like that. Its hit or miss if a dvd player will play it even if the vob is compliant. It needs proper authoring.
Also do you really need it that fast? Authoring a compliant video file shouldn't take very long on even slower computers. Are you adding lots of extras like motion menus and stuff like that? That will take time. But simple no menu stuff with an already compliant file should be really quick. How quick depends on your processor speed of course.Donatello - The Shredder? the problem is I have 40 of them and its SUCH a pain to go through the entire wizard process to tell it No I don't want a menu yes I really don't want a menu next next next just to have to chunk it and author it. I was hoping for something a teeny bit more automated so I can click "go" and come back in 2 or 3 hours to finished ready to burn folders.
I thought of using the vob as is but I am handing these out to random people with random dvd players (rocketry video's) and would rather it be clean and compliant. -
You can do batch encoding with avstodvd. You can make exactly the dvd you want with each video. You can load up the list and then start the batch and it will run on its own.
If I remember right I think it has a limit of 10 at a time but I could be mistaken.
That would seriously streamline your process. Just make the layout you want in avstodvd including menus if you wish then add it to your job list. Then once you have your job list ready start the batch and walk away.
If it is a 10 batch limit just start up the next 10 after your first set is finished.
I am not sure of what other dvd authoring programs have batch encoding. I'm sure many others do but avstodvd does for sure and works quite well. And its freewareDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Serious question - Are you really cheap AND you place no value at all on your time such that you don't mind spending hours converting your videos because at least you don't have to spend any money? I am asking in all seriousness because we do get such people here.
If your answer to that is "no" then just buy a media streamer like a Western Digital model (starts around $100 and goes up depending on the model) and stop all your conversions. Just play your files as they are and get on with your life. -
@jman98 - that is normally good advice but this is hobbyist video the poster is giving to people. I would doubt any of them would have a wdtv media player or would know what to do if you gave them a harddrive with files on it.
For personal use yes I completely agree jman98. However in this instance an actual physical dvd that would play in a regular player would be ideal in this case.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
yeah I watch all my videos on my computer or my wdtv but many others simply prefer DVD or don't have the equipment to play anything but a DVD and don't want to use their (small) pc screens.
I record launch videos at the rocketry launches I goto. I record in 720p mp4 (sanyo hd1's great camera's!) usually. I use super to crank them to dvd mpgII compliant files. I could tell it to make dvd compliant NAMES as well but then its hard to tell them apartnext time I will put each video in a separate folder then I can tell it to make them VTS 1gb files but thats a pain too
I do this work or OTHERS not me. for my own viewing I just click the file and play it. if I REALLY want to play it on some other TV I put it on an SD card or Flash drive and load it into my WDTV or laptop and jack into whatever screen is nearby. heck I can even do that with my cell phone (touch pro 2) it will play them and output to a TV.
I spend seconds converting my video BTW jman. it takes me all of 30 seconds to open super drop my videos into the job list hit encode (its already set with my preferred settings) and wait for it to go. then I turn off the monitor when I wake up in the morning its all done
Sometimes club members ask me for copies to watch so I will convert them to DVD and make a few dozen copies for the club members and am trying to "speed up" the process a bit.
I don't really edit the video except to remove dead area and I don't add menu's etc.. too much work for an unpaid jobhehe

No, I don't think there is a 'click and go solution'. But you can set up a batch file procedure with dvdauthor and imgburn which could do it. You can also use GfD to set up the batch files.
If you would do it one by one (you will most probably have to change the empty DVD in each case), GfD can more or less do what you want. Set it up to use 'no menus', automatically accept video and audio files and use autoburn, then you just need to drag and drop your vob file on the GfD menu background and click on 'Create DVD'Last edited by borax; 28th Feb 2011 at 03:08.
