    Hi there,

I was wondering if there was a way to transferring few films already recorded on my DVR (swisscom) box to my PC / Laptop.

DVR (encrypted) --> PC / Laptop??

I am advised that the recorded films on DVR are in encrypted form. The DVR box looks like this - http://www.swisscom.ch/fxres/asp/tv/img/box/SetupBox_plus_hinten_PopUp_en.jpg

I wanted to know the different ways of doing this.

secondly , someone suggested connecting DVR to DVD recorder (via scart) and then to burn DVDs instead of copying media directly to PC from DVR, not sure if this works on encrypted films?

DVR (encrypted) --> DVD Recorder --> PC / Laptop ??

Any guidance on this will be gratefully received

Please note that I am non technical person and at a beginner level, so please provide as much instruction as you can.

    many thanks

  2. I haven't seen any crack for the 5C encryption used by DVRs. Whether the analog route works will depend on whether the DVR applies Macrovision to its output and whether the DVD recorder responds to it. You can use a "video clarifier" to remove the macrovision signal. If your PVR has component outputs you can record HD material with that and a Hauppauge HD PVR.

sorry, what does component output mean?

In summary, does it mean that there is no solution available at the moment?

As far as I know there is no way to copy 5C encrypted video off a PVR digitally. If you find a way please post the details.

Were it a tivo DVR, tivo provides an application to offload via a network cable.

Otherwise, you'll have to go the DVD recorder or capture card route.
