Can't play audio from avi made from mkvtovob for ps3

Hi There,

I am new to this. My friend gave me 1 tb of movies as avi files. When try to play them using VLC player, the video plays find but audio just big noise. Other player also plays video fine but no audio (windows media player, windvd, powerdvd,mplayer).

I checked with my friend he used mkv2vob to convert mkv files to avi for PS3. While converting he had DTS to PCM option on. Now he does not have the original MKV files.

So is there anyway I can convert avi with PCM audito to any other format which play on VLC or any other software player. I don't care about playing them on PS3 as I don't have one.
