    Greets...

I've been using avidemux for swapping containers when needed (typically MKV or MP4 to AVI), and usually it works fine. Video: Copy, Audio: Copy, Container: AVI. Bingo, done in 60 seconds. However, this most recent attempt ran into a glitch where the video is listing itself as a little over 2 minutes too long and I've even found the spot in the video where it appears to go out of sync all at once, about five minutes into it.

I've loaded the MKV into several other editing proggies, and they're all reporting the correct running time, but unfortunately all of them are mainly re/encoders. I'm really just looking to find alternatives to avidemux that can do a quick container swap on the chance of one of them not having the same glitch. Worth a try anyway.

So, anyone know of anything worth trying (under Windows)? I nosed around through the Tools area, but couldn't find anything. Saw a recommendation or two for programs that supposedly did it (like XMedia Recode), but it turned out they didn't (or at least I couldn't find the function after installing them).

Thanks for any tips or recommendations.

Why do you want to use AVI?

If it's DivX/Xvid in the MKV/MP4 then I'd understand you wishing to relocate, but if it's H.264 video in the MKV that you want in an AVI then, for a number of reasons, you're verging on a Black Art. (Long story. )

At any rate, I'd try MKVextractGUI to demux the streams. Then I'd try AVI-Mux GUI to mux into an AVI.

Of course, if successful, this will be a lossless "copy" process as well.
I hate VHS. I always did.
