Subtitle Translation Feature

Hi All,

Is there a subtitle software or translation tool which can easily make translation in a way described below

1. Consider that you have movie and it is the original/official/first edition. The movie is in any language and you have translated subititles. Total running time is 90 minutes and there is 900 subtitle lines in the Original.srt and Translated-Original.srt based with same timecodes.

2. Later on movie is remastered and there is a new release such as Extended/Special/Directors Cut etc.. and new total running time is 100 minutes and Extended.srt has 1000 subtitle lines .

Is there a program that can do :

1. First you point the Original.srt with 900 lines
2. You point the Extended.srt with 1000 lines
3. You point the Translated-Original.srt
4. The program uses the timecodes from Extended.srt and creates Translated-Extended.srt subtitle by searching for the same words/lines from Original.srt subtitle and for the matching lines it uses the Translated-Original.srt lines.

In this way you will be able to translate the extended edition in 10 seconds. Only there will be 100 lines (1000-900) remaining untranslated but you will have perfect subtitle timings. You can translate these 100 lines or leave as they are.

I have found Subtitle Precessor 7.71. It is not exactly what i am seeking for but at least it accepts the Extended.srt and the Translated-Original.srt. I could copy the the matching lines with "green txt up arrow" button. Multi line selection is not working so in this case you can not copy and paste a matching block. Shift and CTRL did not help for multiple line selection "Translator mode settings >>> Contol >>> Ask" should be disabled otherwise it ask for confirmation in all operations.

This kind of problem is really probably best served by writing a program in something like Perl (or some other suitable language of your choice) to do the work for you. I fully realize that doing so is beyond he capability of most non-IT type people but it's really the best choice. Unfortunately it seems that the original post is another variation on the theme of "I want to do something so specialized that almost nobody else in the world wants to do it, but I don't understand why nobody has written a program that can do it for me".

Too bad there's no HyperCard for Windows. We could just refer everyone to that and let them figure it out.

Subtitle works are in generally very easy or maybe unnecessary for people who are natively speaking English. In most of the cases either the movie is dubbed in English or there is English subtitles embeded by the producers of the movie with perfect timings and cues. There are translation modules in most of the subtitle programs. I was hoping to find a one of them which is good for my needs and make things in automatically. There are many people working for translations amateurly. Now i understand that the translator people are always doing the work in my case "line by line" mode.

There are many movies released as Extendes/Special/Directors Cut Editon and i can find them translated from English. So it means that the translators needed the same kind of software in my case but unfortunately , such software does not exists , they didn't have a chance to use the translation of the official first release which will ease their work 90% and they had to prepare totally new subtitle and wasted many hours.

Subtitle Precessor 7.71 has also helped me a lot . It took more than 1 hour for copleting the translation modification. At least it has saved me to do it by simply opening the subtitles by Notepad and pasting the lines from one to an other subtitle file. Jman you are right , best way is to code something which can do it for me but coding will take same or more time using the sotware i've mentioned above.
