  1. I AM HAVING A PROBLEM BECAUSE MPEG 2 IS DISABLED IN FFDSHOW. I CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET IT ENABLED. THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ANY BUTTONS OR CHECK BOXES, ETC. IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME HOW I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.
    THANK YOU.

    WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING ?

Open the Video Decoder Configuration utility (Found under FFDShow in your Start menu). Find Mpeg-2 in the list of codecs, then click where it says "disabled" and you can then choose a decoder from the list.

  3. If by shouting you mean typing in capitals, it has to do with vision problems. It is easier for me to see what I typed when the letters are all capitals. However, since it appears to be offensive I will not "shout".

I do not know which codecs I should choose. I am using ffdshow with 'Rebuilder' to make a backup of a new BR disc.

Thank you for the help. Especially the screen shot which made it easy to understand.

    It's an old internet etiquette.
    All caps is considered shouting.
For me it just makes it harder to read. (all caps hurts my eyes)

I understand you do it for vision problems.
If you need the text to be bigger you can hold the ctrl button while scrolling with your mouse to zoom in and out on your screen.

Use the versions of ffdshow, haali, and avisynth linked on this page:

In your BDRebuilder folder is a utility called inspect.exe. Run it to verify that you're configured properly for BDRB. Post the results of inspect.exe here if anything is amiss and we'll help you fix it. Good luck.

  6. I have tried but not been able to reset the MPEG 2 correctly. I do not know how to fix VC-1.

    Thanks for the help!

  9. Maybe someone using WIN7 will chime in here. Are you saying you could not access the drop-down list by clicking on "disabled" in the Decoder column next to VC-1?

    I can set VC-1 to WMV9 under Win7

Caveat - I had an older version of FFDShow on this machine, and could access the config screen happily to take the screen shot I posted above. Yesterday I installed Service Pack 1 on this machine, and this morning I could not open the config screen at all. Probably coincidence, however I have just installed the current FFDShow, and I can open the config screen and configure codecs.

  11. I do not get any drop down choices except "disable". I am running Win 7 Home Premium with SP 1 installed. I have the version of ffdshow from the link on BDRB website, which warns of newer version problems. However based on what you suggest I am going to try a newer version. Thanks for keeping the dialogue with me. I appreciate the help.

  12. I suspect the problem isn't the version, but rather a corrupted install. I'd first try uninstalling ffdshow, run a registry cleaner (like CCleaner), reboot, then re-install the recommended version again.

And I hope you have never installed a codec pack on that machine.

  13. I have been away for a while and am just getting back to my efforts to create a back up.

I do have a codec pack installed. It is Windows 7. codec pack v 3.0

In my most recent attempt I tried the inspect exe it produced two lines:
    Windows Version 6.1 [7601]
    AVISYNTH: Version 2.5.7.0, OK

in this same attempt the following is the lob produced:

  14. I forgot to add that the inspect report produced an error message.
The error was Runtime error '13'
    Type mismatch
    Quote Quote
  15. I would get rid of the codec pack, delete the program folder for it and run a registry cleaner. Your runtime error is either a stuffed helper program, probably haali, or a recurring bug in BDRB that affects a small number of users. I suspect because their machines are not entirely stable.

After removing all traces of the codec pack, uninstall ffdshow, haali, and avisynth. Manually delete the program folders. This is particularly important with haali, as it is prone to getting corrupted and an uninstall can leave behind junk which screws the re-install. Reboot, run a registry cleaner like CCleaner, and re-install recommended versions. Recommended versions, mind you, don't fool around.

Delete your BDRB folder as well. Download and unzip version 0.37.04. First right click on REG_MSCOMCTL and Run as Administrator. Then right click on BD_Rebuilder.exe and run as Administrator. This allows BDRB to configure itself correctly in WIN7, according to what I've read. (I'm on XP).

Then run inspect.exe again. If everything checks out, try another encode.

    Good luck.

Am I just lucky or does everyone have this much trouble getting started?

Many of those foolish enough to install a codec pack *do* have trouble and have asked for help here. Yeah I know, lots of people use codec packs and get away with it, which doesn't make it a good idea.

Dealing with Blu-ray is a different ball game. You need clean, tested versions of the helper apps, and no codec conflicts at all. BDRB has low tolerance for conflicts. If you can get BDRB to work correctly on your machine, you're good for most anything else.

If I were you, after re-configuring, I'd do a test encode of a different disc, movie only. I have that set (BoB)and have done that disc. That disc has BD-J (java) menus and PiP (picture-in-picture). A toughie to start out with, lots of things to possibly go wrong.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

  18. Do to work pressures it took me until today to get back to my BDRB project. I did everything you suggested except I kept the same copy of BDRB, V 3705. I ran the inspect utility and it said OK to everything. I then proceeded with the program setting the result to an ISO file. Everything ran like a charm. At the end I tried writing the ISO to a disk with BDRB. It did not work. Nothing was written to the disk. I then used Image burn to write the image to the same disk and bingo, it wrote without a hitch. I watched the entire disk to see if there were any problems. It is a perfect copy with all the extras working.

Thank you for all your help! I am looking forward to backing up other disks. Then I will be able to relax when the kids watch any of my DVDs.

To quote someone "Wham, bam, thank you mam".
