  1. Hey, I don't know if I'm in the correct spot, but... I have a lot of PAL VHS's and I also have a PAL VHS player and I want to use it on my tv, which is NTSC. Does anyone know what I would need to be able to use my vhs player with my tv? Do I need a RF to RCA converter, would that then fix the problem? I'm not sure how I could even convert it to a NTSC VHS, which also seems quite expensive, and since I already have a PAL VHS player I would think there would be an easier way to watch my movies. I don't think that it would be possible to just convert my plugs to fit into my tv, since the system would still be different. So in the end I would be stuck with getting some sort of converter (if that is even possible), but I'm not sure what. Does anyone have any ideas? I would appreciate any ideas/help, Thanks!

    Something like this should work:
    http://www.amazon.com/Atlona-CDM-660-Multi-System-Video-Converter/dp/B001FQB142

I can offer no personal feedback on this particular device and offer it only as an example.

  5. Great link to that atlona product, always amuses me when 50% of the buyers love it and 50% of them hate it-weird eh? I tend to put it down to poor users.

You need to convert the PAL signal, either from the vhs tapes in a converting vcr, or from your vcr, which will probably work on 110 volts okay-have you tried? There is no easy fix via cables or plugs, there are cheap "converters" but I think they produce a poor image:-

    as follows:-

    http://cgi.ebay.com/PAL-NTSC-Video-System-Converter-/310181492408?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item483841 f6b8

Following suggestions:- in order of ease

    1: http://cgi.ebay.com/SAMSUNG-SV-5000W-MULTI-SYSTEM-VCR-BRAND-NEW-BOX-/260736434858?pt=VCRs&hash=item3cb51a42aa

    Not a bad price actually

2: The material on the PAL VHS's , can it be found on dvd anywhere? as I am guessing having it on DVD is preferable, if it is not family videos , send me a list and I will see what can be done.

3: In the USA they do not deal well with PAL stuff, so even if you could get a PAL dvd recorder, how do you watch it?,,have you got a mutli system TV?

This is an easy fix, you can get really complicated and find a capture card for your computer and capture from your PAL VCR, then convert it on the computer to NTSC and create a DVD, and here are previous posts on that subject, it is a well worn subject on this forum

or get one of these, create a PAL dvd

    http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/DVD+Recorders+%26+Players/DIGA+DVD+Reco...trackInfo=true

and then get one of these to play the pal dvd on your ntsc tv:-

    http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-PIONEER-HDMI-1080p-Multi-Region-PAL-NTSC-DVD-Player-/400194438...item5d2d72860d

I used to own all this gear and everything I bought from the UK plays fine on 110 volts, and the UK Panasonic combos, are menu switachable from pal to ntsc but they do not convert pal vhs to view on ntsc I am pretty sure. If your tapes are copy protected, another hurdle to oversome needing one of these:-

    http://cgi.ebay.com/AV-Tool-AVT-8710-Time-Base-Corrector-TBC-/270709954230?pt=LH_Defau...item3f079216b6

With the exchange rate as it is, do not be scared of getting stuff shipped from the UK, but really the samsung first option is the simplest.
    PAL/NTSC problem solver.
USED TO BE A UK Equipment owner., NOW FINISHED WITH VHS CONVERSIONS-THANKS

IMO, better to apply the money to a digital TV that supports PAL source.

PAL support isn't generally listed in the TV specs but most major brands block PAL. Chinese brands are often "world" models and support multiple formats. Both my Vizio HD TVs fully support PAL (composite, S-Video, analog component, HDMI). That doesn't mean all Vizio TV sets will.

You will need to take your PAL VCR to the store and test some TV sets. Don't waste time with Sony, Samsung, etc.
