  1. I've been using mostly old converters and editors for exporting my video needs. The only up to date video converter I've been using is Handbrake, and would like to know of your picks for up to date video converters that convert to .avi or other formats.

you know I don't know if you're purposely trying to come as offstandish, but I made it blatantly clear that I want to know what other people are using and you don't need to be a smart ass about how you reply to me. I asked a question, a question that was basic and simple to answer with an answer, not a smart ass comment about people not being mind readers.

I hate to defend 16mmJunkie but....

It seems like a legit Q and that you are being a bit overly sensitive, thin skinned, bitchy, that time of the.... well, you get the idea...
    LOL!!

It all depends on WHAT you are converting FROM!!!

Actually it was a simple request for information....if you want help you need to give more information as to what your trying to do. What others use for projects differ in what they are attempting to do. Updating isn't always a way to solve something,,,sorry you didn't like my answer but it's a fair response to your original post. You gave vague information requiring others to make assumption.

For batch conversion of DVD rips to H264 I have been using XmediaRecode. It covers a wider range of codecs, including Xvid AVI, and allows for pretty detailed configuration of your codecs. You can build and save your own profiles for re-use as well. It has a few idiosyncrasies - it's cropping and resizing takes a little getting used to. However I have found it to be far better than handbrake for what I need.
