    Ok dumb question time - what is AC3 ? is it dolby surround sound (or comparable)?

    Is it better than mp2?, if so how can I convert mp2 files I have to AC3 for burning to dvd (i.e an mpeg2 file dmuxed) using freeware or inexpensive tools

    I appreciate any help

    AC3 is known as Dolby Digital, it's an MPEG2 based compression method as far as I remember (but I could be wrong!) and has 5.1 Seperate tracks and a subwoofer.

    As for how to accomplish an AC3 from an MP2 I have absolutly no idea

    well the .1 is the sub woofer. i'm guessing by the lack of info on this subject no one happened to copy it from labdv b4 they started charging:-p
