  1. Is there a tool out there that will allow wvc-1 cropping without re-encode. On older model wmv's you could use the Windows Media File Editor but Ive tried it on a wmp11 wvc1 vc1 advanced and confirmed that it does not work.

I also recently downloaded the new free expression encoder 4 but there is no option to just save the dang thing. It insists on re-encoding...

Some will say, "Microsoft sucks. Convert it to h.264. Put it in a matroska file because their cool."

I agree with all of the above. And am trying to do so. But it takes my fastest of 3 pcs 7 hrs to re-encode an HD 12MBps wvc1 to similar quality mp4/h264.

So my thinking was that if I could crop the wvc1 into 3 files, I could be handbraking all three simultaneously and then merge them together at the end, a process I can do.

If someone knows of an even more genius way of getting a 3GB wvc1 to h264 quicker and easier, I would appreciate that answer also...

The reason this is necessary is because I want to play the files on my ps3 without streaming and they don't support wvc1, just vc1 (simple).

Thanks in advance yall. I love you like my children. (does that mean I don't clean my room when asked, or that I regularly do things that will make you upset because I know better?)
My plasma's only 42 inches, but I sit 24 inches from it. It's pretty cool.

You're new to the forums, so I want to ask you some serious questions. Do you place any value at all on your spare time? Or are you, like many here, so cheap that you don't care how much time it takes to do these conversions as long as you don't have to spend any more money?

Streaming to the PS3 is pretty antiquated and has been for some years now. There are better solutions out there like the various Western Digital (and other brands) media players. If it was me, I'd try to find out if one of those players will play your videos WITHOUT conversion and if so, just buy it and get on with my life. Doing this conversion all the time is nonsense in my opinion, but it's your life and your time to waste if that's what you want to do. By the way, those media players are much cheaper than you probably think.

  3. Thanks for the help jman.

I did buy a media player. It's my PS3. And I don't stream to my PS3. If I were streaming I wouldn't need to convert the videos, I could just use TVersity.

I do value my spare time, which is why computers are so cool. They can be performing billions of operations per second while I am sleeping or at work.

I quess I'll just convert it the long way.
