Need Basic Video Editing Software - PC

Hi guys,

We are building a custom computer for a user at our office and we are going to also need some basic video editing. Mostly, they take a dvd, convert it in windows movie maker, maybe do some splicing and minor edits, then put it back on a dvd.

We are looking for something faster than windows movie maker (though maybe its just cause they were using a crappy computer that conversion times were slow).

Also, a side question: "Can dvd material be edited and left in the same format, rather than having to convert it, then edit it, then convert it back? If not, why not?" Thanks!!

Yep, with for example Mpeg Video Wizard DVD. It will only reconvert over the transitions if you use any then.

Yes...but it is done WITHOUT Windows Movie Maker.....just to clarify Baldrick's post.

Awesome. So any suggestions on some basic software . The selling points for us are:

1) Fast conversions (or no conversion if we can do all the basic editing and splicing without it)
2) Simple Editing

Baldrick already suggested MPEG Video Wizard DVD. That's the most suitable fit for what you have specified.

If you don't like Mpeg Video Wizard you can try latest TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works

Just remember, if you use MPEG VIDEO WIZARD (which I do) you have to capture your footage in MPEG format. I have been producing a weekly program for the last couple of years for Public Access TV using MPEG VIDEO WIZARD and have been very happy with the results.
