    Hi all!

Been learning through videohelp long time but finally I had to register to get help from someone wiser with these things than myself.

I recently clean/installed my system with Windows 7 64bit. Since then Im having little problem with subtitle showing in AVCHD (m2ts) video when encoded with avchdcoder.

Scenario what I have is this:

I have mkv file with .srt subtitle file. I encode it to BD5 (DVD-R 4.7GB) with AVCHDCoder. When I open the result (BDMW/STRAM/00000.m2ts) with VLC It recognizes 1 subtitle file and still shows 2 subtitles. One encoded with ffdshow and one by smth else(?).
If I untick subtitles off from video decoding options in ffdshow I end up with 1 recognized subtitle stream (BDPG) but even I select it in vlc, I dont see any subtitles. Other programs like total media theatre and splash pro shows subtitle normal. Im wondering if this is related to vlc?

What I want is that I get video stream that plays on VLC with 1 subtitle, aswell as others and I think this is related to ffdshow somehow. I have x64 and x86 bit ffdshows enabled. Could someone advice me what I have to change in ffdshow (x86 and x64) to get perfect results?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. What is the result encoding of the .srt? Is it PGS subtitle stream in the .m2ts? VLC will display PGS subs. At least it should if it's a recent release. If you also have an external .srt file that may explain the double subs. If it's another format please specify. If you don't know get the info via MkvToolnix or Media Info.

Subtitle I have is .srt. I have tried both, external and internal way of encoding it with avchd, but result leads to double subtitle. VLC says in codecinfo that subtitle stream is "bdpg".

With situation that I "dont see" the subtitle playing even when I have selected it in vlc while playing video, i sometimes see very quick flash of playing subtitles. So it is there, somewhere, but I need to figure out why it's not showing _all the time_ and when it does, it shows double. Like hardcoded on the bottom and selectable subs below them, even I have selected only 1 subtitle stream in avchdcoder.

  4. I was getting something similar when I had Haali Media Splitter set to show subs in media player classic home cinema. The first thing I would do is rename the .srt file. If you have movie.m2ts with movie.srt in the same folder, try renaming the .srt to movie_SAVE.srt and see if the problem goes away.

If you plan on using VLC or another player with PGS subs support then I see no reason to have the external .srt hanging around in the same folder. Store it someplace for future reference. What I found as a good compromise is taking the .srt and using AviAddXSubs to convert to idx/sub. That way you can set the font, font size, position etc. and it works out better in players and set top boxes that give .srt only bland support. One example is my WD set top box. .srt looks small and thin. idx/sub I make with AviAddXSubs are easy to read.

Also you can extract PGS subs and use BDSup2Sub to export idx/sub instead and use those.

Otherwise I would check into FFDShow settings how to turn off overlaying .srt subs.

That did work! I renamed srt file to test.srt and avchdcoder snoops subtitles in same folder and when I encoded I got only 1 selectable subtitlestream that works with total media theatre and vlc! Awesome

    Thank you!
