  1. Okay guys :- NEWBIE ALERT....pls try not to flame me....

But does Sony Vegas , also have the features to import XVID , AVI etc with the ability to create Menus and to make a DVD suitable for All/Most home dvd players....or is this just a editing package ?

If so , any reccomendations for a good package , i'm happy to buy a good package...or have a freebie public domain type offering.

    thanks

Don't forget to go to the Vegas website and get the latest release.

Like I said earlier, MSPPP can upload directly from the timeline to YT without rendering, but personally I render to 720p30 4K then upload to YT and the quality is fine. The audio is the biggest problem with YT, they cut it way down.

Vegas will handle any media if you have the codec installed. For Xvid you need K-Lite. AFA DVD's go, it's best to render to Mpeg2/AC-3 first, then take it over to DVDA. DVDA doesn't come free with MSPPP AFAIK, only pro, but it's well worth the extra cost. DVDA is the ultimate DVD maker.

Ok, I was playing with it last night. I'm working with my MiniDV AVI videos that look very good before I do anything to them. I can load them in Vegas Studio and edit and all
that. But how do I save them back to AVI format correctly? I click "Make Movie" and given a couple of options - one is Format, I pick "Video for Windows -AVI". There's an another section "Template". I pick 'default uncompressed'. I render it and the video is OK but the sound is chopping and cuts out. Now if I pick for format "Video for Windows - AVI" and for Template I pick - NTSC DV, the picture looks very good and the audio plays like it should.

If I save to NTSC DV, is that the same as my Handycam MindiDV?

Also, a color question - in the preview video screen I can pick blue gray scale, red gray, blue gray scale, or alpha gray scale. How do I get it to show just the regular video?

Never mind about the color question. I found the answer. Still want to know though - is Mini DV the same as NTSC DV?

When you choose to render as AVI, click custom, then look for your codecs in the dropdown list.

DV is DV. NTSC just means 720X480 29.97 fps.

Hey man, you need to start hitting the WiKi and feeding the skullcap yourself on the basic stuff.

Vegas Platinum comes with a reduced version of DVD Architect. It should be fine for making a DVD. I use the Pro version.

Yes, you can export to a file (NTSC DV) or print to tape.

For DVDA export (Render As) MPeg2 DVDA.

PS: My ability to respond is limited due to snow and power outage. I can't get to my Vegas Platinum machine until the snow plows arrive.

I re-read the PDF manual for Vegas Studio again. I'm glad I did, I discovered more about what it can do.

I did, for the first time ever, try to make a DVD that would play on my DVD player. I've burned CD's with music before. I've burned pictures on DVD's once or
twice for back up. But I never burned a DVD to play on my DVD player. So I picked a short video and burned it using the Sony DVD software. I played it on my DVD player and wow - that MIniDV footage playing from my DVD player to the TV looked just as sharp (or almost) as it does while having my Handy Cam hooked up directly to it using S-video. I didn't know burning DVD's was so easy. Nice!
