  1. I got it about 6 months ago, and at first it worked ok. Slow, VERY slow, but it worked. Now, for quite a while, it's been giving me errors after errors and I have no idea why.

One of them is with the projects - once I close them normally, they won't open up again for a while. The project will stop loading at a specific percentage and vegas will stop responding. I have to keep restarting the system and open and close it many many times until it works.
Also, most of the time when I close vegas normally, I get an error right after that vegas stopped working. I don't get why, since I closed it properly, and it did not stop responding.

Another problem is the rendering - whenever I try to render in HD I get an error saying the system is low on memory or I simply get a box saying vegas has stopped due to an error. And go figure, this error started appearing more and more often AFTER I had bought an additional 2 GB RAM! I have a total of 3GB, and I'm using a 32 bit OS so I can't even dream for more than 4 GB. Therefore if the rendering depends only on the amount of RAM I'm stuck! I don't know what to do.

The thing that puzzles me is that some (divine, marvellous, fortunate) times vegas will render a project in HD, while some other (much more often) times it will not render the same project in HD. Ok, I would understand that it's a limitation of my computer due to the RAM I have if vegas could NEVER render HD videos, but why is it that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't?
I check the RAM usage in the task manager every time before I start rendering a project, and make sure I close all unnecessary processes. Still, the same error with slow on memory appears.

I've talked to someone else using windows 7, and she had 4 GB RAM. But she said she never had any problems rendering in HD and that her vegas never took up much RAM when running. I don't get it. Why, since it's the same system, almost the same RAM and same software, will it not work for me? Vegas takes a ridiculous amount of RAM on my computer when open by the way. It varies from 150,000 to over 500,000.

it would help if you filled in all the computer spec in your profile. problem could be low on hard drive space? something wrong with the windows swap file on your computer?

reloading projects can take awhile as vegas needs to find and load all the files. better to just wait than force it to close before it's done.

you can always uninstall vegas/reboot/re-install vegas and see if it helps. make sure to get the latest updated version 9 from sony.

  3. I did fill all the required fields except for CPU because I'm not sure what I should put there My HDD memory is around 200 GB and I've got enough free space on C, that shouldn't be an issue.
It doesn't take just the regular amount of time to load, it simply blocks at a specific percentage and stops responding. I even let it for 10 minutes once but it didn't start. I didn't force it to close without having to do it.
I actually want to avoid uninstalling it at all costs because I have a terrible bad luck with these things. I'm afraid that if I uninstall it I won't be able to get it installed again. I just don't wanna risk losing this software.
    Are those updates free?

If you are registered all updates install over your original. Your current install seems corrupted.

    What was your CPU?

Vegas Pro 9 had no issues for me.

How did you install it? Without registration it defaults to 30 day demo mode. If you have the reg key, you can try to register it.

Registered owner, serial number and machine ID shows on the boot screen and under Help-About. When you activate on a new computer, the old computer is deactivated.

The registration key does not show, it is in the original order documents and is needed to install. If you call Sony and convince them you are the registered owner, they may issue a new install key.

  10. I found them, thanks! So Version 9.0e is the latest? And if I download it, do I have to uninstall vegas first or will the update install over it itself?

or not. if it's not a genuine version of vegas an update will kill it completely.

SCS is pretty liberal with registrations, and they do allow you to sell your old version when you upgrade, so it's quite possible that your upgrade to 9.0e will go smooth.

Once you get a serial and download the install file, I would COMPLETELY uninstall what you have, and even wipe out the shared folder too if there are no other Sony products on your machine.

If this clean reinstall doesn't work out, then you have a Windows or hardware problem. Vegas relies heavily on Windows.

The activation issues go back to the Sonic Foundry days. I've had most difficulty moving Sound Forge to a different machine. If you register and call them, they will give you updated key codes.

The strange thing about Sony is owning two versions of the same product. They seem to think you should only own one so challenge the second machine..

Well, good or bad, I still get nervous registering online.

When I bought the $139 upgrade from 9 to 10, I didn't get the serial email for a few days, so I called the Sales number since it was sales related right? They answered on the first ring.

But if you call tech support you will get "Hello, due to heavy call volume......". And email tech support takes days.

Another thing is SCS pairs your serial with a generated "Machine ID". I suspect they create it from the MAC address. So you can probably reinstall or register on the same machine easier.

I dunno. In the past I just pointed Sony to my registered product list on their support site.

I'm no Sony Japan fan, I even have major issues with them, but this doesn't extend to Madison, Wisconsin.

Yeah, yeah, I'm OK with the Madison people too. I prefer them to prioritize the product dev instead of the phones. It's probably a nonstop barrage.

ok now I really don't know what to do The LAST thing I wanna do is erase vegas or damage it (any more than it already is)! GOD knows what I've been through to get it! The first time I tried downloading it from a site, and apparently it was just a virus which killed my system and I lost everything on my laptop... now this time I asked someone to get it for me, and I have no idea where he got it from, if it's genuine or a copy so I don't know what to do. Damn it, why do they have to make vegas so expensive?!

Buy the Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 10 version. Specials take it well below $80. I got mine for $39 with competitive rebate. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/693798-REG/Sony_MSPVMS10000_Vegas_Movie_Studio_HD.html

Currently there is a half price upgrade to Pro

  20. Movie Studio is nothing compared to Pro. It's got a limit of tracks so I can't even consider it, as I use lots of them. And even that is too expensive for me at the moment I can't afford to buy anything.
If I do install that update (I already downloaded it) and say it ruins the currently installed version of vegas, would I be able to install the same version again if I have it on the CD or will it not allow me to reinstall it?

There should be a complete install package in your Sony folder.

There's a ten track limit in Ver.10, and even so, you can work around this by efficient use of multiple .VEG files and prerendering periodically to .MXF .

If you're a legitimate user of Vegas, even if someone gave it to you, then you should go through the registration process and solve the problems.

    And stop posing.

Well sorry I thought you might know if you've encountered errors like this before. I'm the one completely outside the subject here, I was just asking for an opinion.

I didn't know 10 had a track limit as well, pro 9 doesn't have any and I don't know what on earth you mean by stop posing O.O but ok I'll try to find some other way to solve these problems it seems this is getting me nowhere anyway.

Never had the problem because I have the install key and can re-install or move the program at will. If for some reason I lost the install key, I would call Sony Digital and get another one.

I'm talking about Movie Studio 10 has a 10 track limit, it was 4 in previous Movie Studio versions.

Anyway, by now I think it's clear that something is fishy.

  27. Well I never said I had the genuine thing o.o if that's what you mean by posing. I actually said I don't know where he got it from and that it's probably a copy. That's why I said from the start I want to avoid official updates since I'm not sure how it will affect the vegas I have. I was asking to see if by any chance it might be a problem of my system that could be solved more easily and not the software. Is this the wrong place to post about unofficial copies and all that...? I didn't think you'll take it this way since almost everyone I know got it by different means than buying it.
