    I'm trying to import 15-year old video through a Canopus ADVC110 video adapter into my iMac (a year old: 3.06 Ghz Intel) using iMovie (old or new versions). It is connected to the iMac via FireWire. I'm playing the video into the Canopus on an old Sony Video Cassette Recorder EVO-210. The original Canon Camcorder that I used to record the tapes isn't working properly any longer. I bought the EVO-210 on eBay and it works fine. It plays the tapes normally through any of my TVs but when the video is imported into the iMac, the picture flips and discolors about once a second or so. The video is unusable. Interestingly, when I play old VHS tapes into the Canopus using a Panasonic PV-8451 VCR, the picture is fine. The same goes for playing later digital tapes into the unit on my 1990 Sony digital camcorder (Hi-8 as digital). Any ideas? Thanks!

    Actually, the "flipping" probably would be better described as "flickering". I can make out what's happening in the video but it's interrupted by a "blip" every second or so.

    I'm going to go ahead and guess that your Canopus box is seeing some sync issues and is either misinterpreting them as Macrovision, or just cant lock onto the sync (which is weird considering this is 8mm/Hi8). Maybe a TBC could help.
