I have a web cam I converted to a night vision camera by removing the infrared filter. The software I tested it with is Virtual Dub but it only records in .avi which takes up a lot of disk space. I may be recording for hours at a time and am looking for something that captures as .mpeg so I can get more video per GB.
I am looking for a good (and hopefully free) video capture program I can use to capture video from my web cam and am having trouble locating the software portion of this site. This is for Windows by the way.
Any help would be appreciated.

You can change to another compression in virtualdub, under video->compression choose for example the xvid codec. Adjust the xvid video bitrate settings for lower file size.

Thanks a million. Downloaded the codec and it went from ~25MB per 5 seconds of video to ~25MB per minute of video. That's going to make a huge difference.
Again, thanks.
